hi guys,

i have found another kit and any help will be appreciated.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Premier-DrumKit-Vintage-1960s-era-/280900841837?pt=AU_Instrument_Accessories&hash=item4166feb16d

is it worth that amount? $700 but now remember (i am in australia, where everything is inflated drum wise), what type of wood/ply etc...can anyone identify the snare?

i am waitiing on the seller to answer these same questions and i thought i may as well ask you guys, as someone on here will be able to fill me in about this particular model.

if it all checks out ok, i will buy it now to avoid further disappointment.

thanks guys

bradley.

I'm not that familiar with Premier drums but you may want to make sure they're not pre-international sizes as the heads are harder and more expensive to replace. Having said that, they may be slightly later than 60's. It doesn't look like a 60's wrap to me. Anyway, have a look here and see if you can come up with a match http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/premier_drumsets.html

You should also post it here http://www.mikedolbear.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=3 as there are many members there that know Premier really well. Good luck. It seems like a fair deal to me, for what it's worth.

They are later than 60's to me. Look like pre-2000 series though. I think that is a good deal, yes. They need some TLC but these drums sound great. So long as the edges are good. As usual from Australia, completely crappy pictures and listing. If I were selling that kit it would have gone by now.

I agree, would it kill him to set the kit up for the photos? Show all the mounts etc? Obviously it would.

Well done. I know you have been looking for a while. The shells are probably birch/spruce. I think they're early 70's. The good thing about these kits (apart from the sound) is that you will never lose money on them. Check out these sites :

Looks like these kits from the early 70's

I had a premier kit from the 70's when I was a lad and I wish I still had it. Premiers don't sound like USA drums really. They are popular for jazz and studio. The 20" kick will make that a good little gigging kit or just for playing at home. $700 is a good price for a complete kit. I wonder if it comes with the disappearing cymbal mount. You might be surprised with that snare drum. That one looks to have the simple snare action and I've seen them go for $300. I also notice the chrome is good - mine had great chrome. This era of UK drums - they really did make them very well. Only the hoops need work but the wood is great on these. Does look like Qblue. I had Qred and I'm telling you, it was the best red wrap I've seen. Those should clean up really nicely. Post some pics when you do . . .

Those might be mahogany shells, which would be a bonus, IMO.
