Ludwig tom slot/tab mount to L-rod

Loading...

I have a '62 Ludwig set with a rail consolette and the mount where the tab on the consolette goes into a slot on the tom.

Sometimes I would just like to mount the tom on a clamp on a cymbal stand for ease and flexibility of positioning.

Is there a way to do this? Has someone ever made an adapter? I guess it would have the tab on one end and a receptacle for a rod on the other.

Thanks for any ideas - John

hi. i'm not 100% sure but wouldn't it be possible to simply replace the "slot" tom holder with a "regular" one without havin' to drill extra holes? also it should be possible to replace the rail-consolettes part with an l-rod shouldn't it? correct me if i'm wrong!

I didn't really want to change anything on the tom, I guess.

I don't know, is it possible to change the plate with the slot to the kind that accepts an L-rod without drilling?

You don't have to change a thing, try this!!

Take the top part of the consolette that has the "tab" and put it in a multi clamp. That would give you plenty of movement to position it where you would want it and you wouldn't have to change a thing and it would be easy to put it back should you hate it.

I'm assuming the "tab" part looks like the one in this pic sort of??

The multi clamp looks like this, this is made by Pearl, but I'm sure there are others:

Just clamp one end to the stand and put the small arm with the "tab" in the other, swivel it around 'till you get it where you want it. You might have to figure out which end to put the blade into depending on the angle you need.

Thanks - I was unaware of a multi-clamp like that. That would do the trick.

I thought more about the changing the plate idea and there would still have to be a new hole drilled as the rod goes into the tom, doesn't it? At least it does on some Slingerland toms I have.

Thanks - John

No problem John, I've got TONS of experience on making things work! Ha HA!!

This way here you can try it without the commitment of drilling ANYTHING and if you like it it will work as if it was MADE to be that way.

Have fun!!

L0L!!

I have one laying around somewhere, I just haven't needed it in a while, so I'm not quite sure where I've put it!!

Not the one he has, it used the tab, or blade shown in the pictures above. The only holes will be for the screws mounting the plate to the shell.
