Thanks Kevin!
I was watching this move through the process and left it as is. You see, we are all seeking information and knowledge and learning about this stuff. There are experts that have something down pretty solid and believe it or not many people do not want to accept what they have to say.
Not only in this situation, but I have been emailed on the side from other experts who have had people not happy with the answer they gave.
To be an expert you have to go out on a limb and give the answer based off of years of research and knowledge which is painstakingly gathered and referenced.
Drumaholic has been at this for many, many years and knows this stuff really well and is an expert on cymbals.
So, many times experts sound a certain way, when in fact they are just so in to their topic they might not come off the right way. I think Drumaholic really wanted to see what the true value was for those cymbals and that is what drives his research and historical documentation.
77custom did what he had to do and he got rid of the cymbals. The market usually does dictate on Ebay and that is that.
I would not take anything personally since this is a forum and things can be taken the wrong way.
I once had an item on Ebay with a reserve of $500 and someone offered me $1500 if I would end the item. He never asked the reserve or what I would take for the item. In fact I had no idea and it could have possibly been worth more. I took the $1500 because that is what he was willing to pay.
For all we know those cymbals could have hit $700 or more. From what I have learned selling on Ebay is that unique, rare, collectible items sell for what they are worth. I have never seen a Ludwig Black Beauty sell for $500, they always hit their respected historical value.
Collectors and historians with a life of collecting find what they are looking for and pay what they know the item is worth.
So, I just think things turned when statements were miss-understood.
I think the original value by Drumaholic was a range.. then the weights were given. Then the statement was made "Those are choice weights."
This was his way of saying those cymbals were closer to the $700 mark based on the weights.
So in the end 77custom, never take these things personally and you did what you wanted to sell the cymbals. This is a forum and other people will have a difference of opinion.
Thanks for sticking up for this forum Kevin! You are correct, this is not the normal tone for the posts on this forum but it is a lesson for others and hopefully people can still learn from it.
