Great find!
There's nothing wrong with Stewart drums other than the very crappy or, non-existing bearing edges. Those shells are 'aged' Luan wood which is Asian Mahogany. Put new bearing edges on that kit (preferably a vintage 30 degree round-over,) add a coat of varnish to the interior of the shells (seal and stiffen the grain,) and that kit will sound every bit as good as any of it's American made counterparts.
Japanese made drums get a bad rap, but it's mostly because they cut corners during production. Fix the bearing edges and that kit will sound killer.
Great find. Invest a little in them, fix the edges. It'll be worth it.

Are yo kidding? I really have to start looking in the garbage for drums. Nice find, those will make a fine kit.
Thank you!

The one thing I've noticed with the Stewarts I just picked up is that cutting corners back then is different then now. It's almost as if manufacturers these days go out of their way to design ways to make things cheaper. They recoup the cost on volume and create essentially a disposable product (like First Act).
I don't believe on the Stewarts, being cheap was as planned. I think the intention is to make a good product and they were either lazy or ignorant on some things.

Thanks guys it was a realy cool find for sure , and i'm sure that they will sound and look fine once the tlc is done. I had a few of these kits in the past and hope to get more free ones in the future. But this time it wont be me doing the work on it , Once my buddy seen this kit he went ape $#!7 for it , so we made a trade for the kit , I got a brand new 2week old pearl 10" fire cracker snare , that i'm happy with , and he's realy happy that he got the kit and he's going to do the work on it and buy the parts needed from me to finish it.
Yes Sir for SURE one mans garbage , is now my tresaure!
