Old K Hi Hats Valuation Help

Loading...

Dear one and all,

Firstly let me say what a pleasure it is to be here. There is a wealth of very interesting information in this forum that I will doubtless be trawling through and enjoying a vast expanse of knowledge.

To the latter end, I am posting on behalf of a poster on another forum. A friend of his has some old K hi hats and has no idea of value. I posted a thread up at Cymbalholics and I was directed here by one of the members.

The original thread (at Drummerworld) is here:

http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1000260#post1000260

The original poster asked us to help him out. I thought it wise to re-direct the question. I am by no means qualified to appraise old Ks and thought it worth posting around. The original question is here:

I hope you can help me out. A very good friend of mine who was a pro drummer for years with a great resume recently had some health issues that have left him unable to play traps. He now plays ONLY with brushes and a snare and sounds fantastic. Sadly though, he has sold off his kit, and now has a set of hihats he wants to market. I promised to help him determine what they are worth, as his computer skills are less than stellar (mine aren't much better...).He bought these 46 years ago and used them up until a few months ago. I have no idea what a fair price might be, so here I am. (from Lou himself "...hey joe here is some pics.of my 14 inch medium hi hat cycbles.Thay are 46 years old zildjian k from istambul & are in excellent shape. The cymbles are stamped & signed. lou ...")Would anyone recognize these and be able to suggest a decent price or perhaps shed a little light on what they actually are or any other info I can pass along to Lou?

I hope that somebody here could help us.

I also appreciate that I am not an established forum member and that such a request sometimes doesn't go down too well! Apologies therefore.

Duncan

I intend to! I'm hoping somebody over here can help but I appreciate your reply.

I'm a cymbal nut but I don't feel qualified to appraise. I'm also turning into a vintage drum nut, I think it's infectious!

Hello Caddy! Good to see you.

I'm on the lookout for an 18" bass drum. Re-rings, and cheaply. I'm sure it can be done - an orphaned drum is just fine! So the saga continues.

I believe those are new stamps. Late 60's to mid 70's. Depending on weight, guessing $500.00--????

Drumaholic will pinpont 'em..

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Fantastic! Thank you very much. Drumaholic, you were specifically recommended to me for this appraisal. I appreciate your time enormously and backbeatkeeper too.

Start a new thread in the Wanted To Buy section. You just might get some hits. Also, try over at Cymbalholic.com. With all the jazzers over there positively oozing over 16" and 15" bass drums (and smaller!), I'm sure there will be some cats looking to unload those ridiculously enormous 18" bass drums of yesteryear...
