Rogers 'hollywood' Set

Loading...

didn't Rogers make a kit that had 2 8x12 toms on it called the 'hollywood' set? Or was that Ludwig? I do believe Rogers made one of these kits, and if I'm not wrong, each of the 8x12 toms had a script Rogers logo on either side of the collet plate. Anybody know what I'm talking about?

Referencing John Aldridge "Guide to Vintage Drums" pg. 71

Ludwig did make a drum set called "The Ludwig Hollywood" which featured.. "the latest in "twin" tom design. It appears this set came standard with 8x12 and 9x13 toms.

However Aldridge does mention that is was quite common in the early 60's that sets with two toms came with matched sizes. Ref. pg.70.

So that's kind of an answer.... Hurting

Rogers 2x 8x12 toms, in general, was called a Top Hat outfit. Usually found with a 16 floor tom with the extra top knobbie mount for a hexed cymbal rod. Sizes do vary depending on requests. Here is an original Dayton 12/12/14/18. The toms had 2 script logos on the same tom when they were in CA. The OH Rogers toms had only one logo per drum. Peace, Gary

The original Ludwig Hollywood sets came with twin 12's. I think they went to a 12 and 13 around late 1965 or therabouts. One of my friends has a Rogers top hat set in BDP that looks gorgeous. 20,12,12,16 with chrome powertone.

Hi Gary and thanks for the info, you are correct I forgot the Rogers kit with 2 8x12's was called the 'Top Hat'....I just bought one in Blue Onyx, looks just like your photo. Both toms are Fullertons as you correctly pointed out, my bass and floor are both Clevelands so this set was pieced together. It was recovered using glue and they look and sound great. I tried to put the photo of it on here but I'll have to define a place on the net for that. thanks agin!
