Zildjian 30!

Loading...

Well not to be out done by the resident cymbal expert Drumaholic i lucked out and scored this little beauty.

30" A Zildjian&Cie 6195g, nice and wobbly. Sounds can be very dark with the right stick or a little brighter with another, nice stick definition with a very controlled sustain. I'm just amazed how these large A's are so musical and never loose the stick sound. I have to admitt thought i do like my 26" trans-stamp a little better but this one is in no way a disappointment.

Another thing about this cymbal is its thin edge along with a higher profile. You don't have to lay into this to get nice rich tones from it and crashes well too! It also makes a 20" look like a splash!!!!

Comparing the large cymbals i have in my collection 24,26,30 the trans-stamp is the most unique while the 24(early 60's 3160g) and 30 share similar lathing and bell shape.

On a side note i did use and will continue using my 26 on gigs. It's a treat to play that special cymbal. I might try to sneak this one past the guitar player next...

Never thought I'd see another like mine.

Try playing that one on your next jazz trio gig.

You know we could meet up sometime and by combining assets, create the world's largest ever hi-hats. I'm sure that'd make the Guiness World Book.

Yeah we should, i'll use mine as a bottom hat since its just a little heavier.

Maybe our cymbals were used as a display at the music trade shows to show off the new A Zildjian & Cie line. What do you think of that theory?

I don't play jazz with the band i'm in(though that's my preference) but i'm thinking of using it on the next band rehearsal to see the reaction of the other band members. I just started playing with this band and i've been using my 26. They just shake their head everytime i pull that one out. On our last gig i used it but the venue was too small for this 30. I use my 12,14,18bd with that 26 and i get all kinds of comments on the size of cymbals next to that little bop kit, but i works perfect together.

Here's an auction i just came across of a Made in Canada stamped cymbal(not my auction btw). Seller as a 26" for sale too.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ZILDJIAN-VINTAGE-30-INCH-76-2cm-RIDE-CYMBAL-RARE-AVEDIS-CANADA-STAMP-/261021568247?pt=Vintgae_Drums_Percussion&hash=item3cc6190cf7

Any idea of the age of this cymbal and if it fits in with the made earlier/stamped later concept.

Gary.

I'm amazed to see this late 70's, 30" Zildjian. 6 months ago I knew of only one,...yours makes the fourth I've discovered recently. (I play a 28" transition , & find it totally controllable, & very musical w/ many zones of different color).

Can you post a pic of the 28" trans along with the weight? That's got to be very rare with that stamp.

I like that. Most of the jumbo sized A's have bells that are small, proportionally speaking, for that size. That one looks like it should be; properly proportion. Yours is a type II trans stamp, and all of those had larger bells. But in this case its appropriate.

The bell is 5 3/4". (The engraving says USN - 28")
