Does this piece have a square hole? You may be able to use a carriage bolt to fix this? A washer, lock washer and nut should secure this well? Wrap some aluminum tape around the tom arm that goes through the u-clamp if that's loose?

Thanks! There is a carriage bolt there and no matter how tight the u clamp rotates on the bolt with the weight and playing of the tom. The L-arm is secure. Its the u clamp that rotates sinking the tom in to the BD shell. It must have had a way to hold the tom angle at one point.

After some internet research. I need the u-clamp pictured (3-holes). and to replace my down tube as the male piece that locks the angle with the three holes was evidently spot welded and is gone. I may be able to fix the down tube with a small screw. Any help appreciated.

Unless you need the original pieces, I'd probably just find the tom position I like and drill a second hole through the u-clamp (the one hole it has already) and start into the L of the down tube, while it's together. Take it apart, finish drilling it through, maybe tap it, put a small bolt through from the front of the L of the down tube so it just comes through enough to lock into the small hole you have already on the u-clamp.

That sure beats wire ties. I think will will do as you say and if I ever run across a replacement Nothing is worse for wear.

Thanks. Lew

Guess, that's the best to do.

But start drilling a smaller hole (than needed) first, so that you can correct it's centering with the next bigger drill.

Also it could be difficult to keep the drill machine fixed to the point where you want to have the hole. This steel/ iron part will offer some resistance against taking a hole.

Take your time & good luck!

A spring loaded center punch would work nice also to punch the spot you need to drill. While the carriage bolt, etc. is in there keeping it pretty tight where you want it, you can pop the center punch through the existing lower hole (without washers possibly blocking it) that's in the u-clamp to the L of the tom arm to mark where you need to drill it. Good luck with this and hope it works out for you!

Slow and steady with a $6 drill bit worked. I put in a SS bolt and locked her in. I could probably add 2 more holes for some repositioning capability. Thanks to all! VDF saved me some $. Now I can play Wipeout without sinking!
