That residue sounds like the wrap might have been a pressure sensitive material, like a big decal. Take the decal off and the adheseve stays. LIke removing window tint. It leaves the adheseve. A ***** to get off. You might try this. get your images, barly wipe the adheseve film on the drum with Xylene and stick your images to now sticky glue!

I just restored these Slingerland's. I think someone slapped tinted (Polyshades) urethane on them as it was all over the badges. I managed to clean up the badges with acetone and was happy with the results! One of the toms looked to be a completely different shade, so I took it to my cabinetmaker friend a we carefully (and successfully) sanded the shell to nearly bare wood. I matched the stain as best I could and again, I was pleased! I sanded the rest of the shells (progressively) and removed ALL topcoat finishes. I recoated with 4 sprayed coats of gloss laquer and a final thin coat of wax. A LOT of chrome polishing and some new heads finished it off nicely! I love the idea of the inlaid photos...that's REALLY original! GOOD LUCK!! 5-1/2x14 14x10 13x9 18x16 24x14 Slingerland 1976

Acetone works well for adhesive removal....not as nasty as xylene but still pretty smelly! Good luck!

Acetone dulls the hell out of drum wrap. Xylene wont harm the finish..

I use these chemicals all the time. Laquer thinner will do it too if you want to melt the wrap too.
