In my opinion, putting in the hard hours to restore a drum is what makes it rewarding.

Nonetheless, show us some photos - interested to see the drums!

Xylene is the best adhesive remover on the planet. I have used it all my life to clean contact adhesive off of brand new cars when we install vinyl tops. It will clean the glue right off and not hurt the paint. It is extremly flameable and has some serious fumes. Be well ventilated and away from any flame. Outdoors is good. You can get it at home depot or lowes. You can soak a towel in it and lay it on the drum and let it sit for a bit to soften the old adhesive up, then wipe or scrape it off with a plastic razor blade or something like that.

Gaurentee ya!

Soap and water aint gonna do s***! Xylene is the way to go!

From DrumOgre

Thanks for the tips... I'm going to try laying a damp towel over a section with some soap and see if it softens up. I'm talking about a complete kit here, so if the solution is something I have to do inch by inch, I'll probably just rewrap them... I need something that won't take me dozens or hundreds of hours.I know destroying an original finish is akin to murder round here, but if it comes down to it, I may sand the wrap down and wrap over it again... this is an early kit, so of course the wrap is laminated to the shell and rolled into the seam.

here is another safer solution citric strip will not harm the factory lacquer but it will loose up the contact cement good luck let it sit and wrap in plastic for a few hours if no go over nite with plastic wrap you'l be surprised

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Citrus Strip wont do it either. Xylene will dissolve it in notin flat!!! Save that old wrap. It will be worth much more.

I forgot about that. you had mentioned that in another thread. It will be interesting to see what happens. The reason I mentioned the soap and water is because its free and safe and ya never know. I do agree that it will take a product such as xylene to get it done but why not try it.

$18 a gallon, is a small price to pay to save the original wrap. Not only will the drums be worth signifacantly more, the cost for rewarping is pretty significant!
