The shell looks like a Beverley( Deans Beverley, that is), It is hard to tell because of the paint overspray but is that wood reddish? My example of a drum with the same lugs has a very thin Mahogany shell. The two holes? maybe for a marching drum mount? Is there no muffler on this drum? Typically , there should have been one. Perhaps one of the holes is where the muffler was? Is that the grommet , circled below the holes?
name that snare
I Think its a German drum The tension screws look flat on top not rounded like Einglish makers use The huge lugs are over kill and Germans alway over design there hardware Can't see if there is any extra holes because of the cheap contact paper throw off could be a ad on This could be a German Frankenstein PLEASE keep us all posted -------------------------------------------- Zutty
I know what you are saying. The lugs look similar to some older German lugs------some Deri ,for instance. Without a direct comparator, it would be a plausible theory but I do have a snare drum with the same lugs, badged , Beverley and now it looks like a similar construction to the shell.
As far as the tension screws-----those are all over the place. Trixon and Sonor had flat tops,Tromsa,Trowa; rounded tops. Ajax, Premier ; rounded tops, Beverley lightly rounded tops,Carlton---almost flat tops. and within each company the shape profile sometimes morphed and changed over the years.

The throwoff is an aftermarket item also? If not , that is the same throwoff that was used for years on Olympic and Beverley( Premier made). I once saw a bass drum that was made in 1960 ,I think. It had some original Dean's made parts(shell and other) but also some Premier stuff. Wondering if yours fits the same bill.

Partially yes, Phil. Wide and deep slotted screws tops are english - for coin tuning use.
To germans ---vary kinds. I have a lot of different Weißenfels drums from some eras ---with nickeled brass rods, nickeled steel (сrарру type... :) ), chromed steel and stainless steel ---all of them have flat tops or the same with small rounded chamfers.
George.

Possibly , George; some British t-rods have come your way that have been used without a key for some period and that has caused the slot to expand an/or flare. There is only one brand ,that I can think of (Carlton) that I have seen examples of that had an extra wide slot. The Boosey&Hawkes,Premier and John Grey stuff in my possession all have 8mm heads with pretty slim slots----yes some coins would work but the nominal measurement of the slot is around the 1mm mark , same as Trixon,Tromsa, later Trowa,Lefima,Deri,. The rods are often quite interchangeable because a lot of them used 12-24 machine threads. Trixon of course was metric and Sonor and Deri 1/4-20 .
This might be worthy of a thread(ha ha), because the rods are one of the key clues(ha ha ha) in identifying some odd unbadged drums.
Hi Phil..the update is i have now bought the Beverley and removed the black fabulon to find a purple painted snare drum..the inside does have 2 white covered holes..see picture..what would these mean?Once you see the photos does it help anymore with the year?? all the lugs and tension screws have come up like new mate.. All i need to do now is re-wrap it and put this gorgeous snare back together again!! Was thinkin a red pearl??Anyone else out there have any thoughts??Excited
here's my first project..re-wrapped and ready to play..happy with my first attempt and hope you all like it..much better than that sticky black fabulon!!

Very nice looking drum Dave. The red pearl is a winner. The shell doesn't look to be Mahogany-----it's lighter, more like Birch. Since there has been no mention of it, I assume that the name Beverley is not inscribed into the top hoop? The snare that I have (6") with the same lugs does have that but the hoops look to be the same, otherwise. That might be a feature, that would date the drum. My drum also does not have those vertical lug backing plates (basically washers)----just plain washers.
