Metal cleaning and Polishing.

Loading...

These two WFL COB rims where tarnished to put it mildly. the one on the left is a before picture the one on the right is after the process!!

I'm about to show you.

Products used are Simichrome metal polish this is the best stuff there is!!! Custom made steel wool mesh 1200 grit..This is not available to the public you will not be able to run down to your local home supply or Rockler store to buy this 1200 grit steel wool mesh IT IS NOT AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC!!! ""A word of caution this is not 0000 grade steel wool that stuff will scratch and destroy your brass, nickel, and chrome finishes.""

I can acquire it from a custom furniture manufacturer here in my area that is a client and a friend. This stuff does not scratch chrome it polishes the daylights out of it. I am in the process of buying a roll of this Steel wool mesh but it's not cheap. may offer it here For Sale if enough interest?

My Good bud and forum member Kevin is privy to this stuff now ask him his thoughts on it!

This combination works great !!

I've had some real "rust bucket" items that I've brought

back to life using Simichrome Polish and this very fine mesh steel wool.

It's almost like cotton, a hand-sized piece winds up being the size of a quarter

after using it.

where do you get semichrome? i read about it (on here i think) earlier this year and i drove around looking for it...nothing. contacted the company who sent a list of dealers. BUT of course none sell to the public.

only one offered to sell to me, but it was a tiny tube and was something like $20. i don't buy things online, so is there a place here in so cal who has it w/o the high price?

i was also looking for autosol. also couldn't find that.

There are a number of stores that offer it on Ebay - small tube

for less than $10.00 shipped.

Locally, your best bet is to try the motorcycle shops.

Hope this helps.

Interesting topic, that's been covered numerous times, here. However (and this might furrow some eyebrows), I've had great results with Brasso, on the shelf at your local food store. Can't imagine one non-abrasive product making a chrome finish shine more than another non-abrasive product. It's chrome. It's a very durable finish. Perhaps I need enlightenment. Help me understand.

Bill, let me answer your question with the same All polishes are the same?? Not in my experience. I've tried Flitz it was ok but simichrome did in one application what it took two or three applications of the Flitz to do the same job. I guess whatever works for you. So by this affirmation then all drums are the same also??Funny Post

Ha, ha, haaa! All drums can't be Gretsch.

I hear what you're saying. Maybe the items I cleaned weren't as bad off as what you were dealing with. Maybe I rub harder? : )

No disrespect intended.

Simichrome is also and eye and skin irritant, while Flitz is considered eco-friendly. Having both in your bag of tricks and using each where necessary would be beneficial.

Thanks for the tips. Again, great site.

Ditto to Simichrome! I've used them all and Simichrome is the best. I work at a music company that manufactures precious metal ( silver, gold & platinum ) flutes and it out preforms everything.

I'm lucky in the sense that I can go one extra step after the Simichrome and buff with Tripoli and then "gloss" the hardware with red rouge and kerosense on a buffing machine.

But in one try the Simichrome is the way to go. :2Cents:
