I got this kit in Memphis at a garage sale in 1995. There is a name and phone number in pencil on the inside of the 13" tom. I called the number and I got a hold of the original owner. Thats where I got the estimated mid 50's age on the kit.

Hi, those drums are from Brazil. The brand is Pinguim (Penguin in portugese)

They started in 1952. They still do snare drums.

Pablo THANK YOU! This is a big help! Now to learn Portuguese! Do you know anything about the quality of these drums. What they are made of? Possible year it was made? The language barrier is a problem. Im doing my best with that.

I will send more pictures soon with this thread.

Tmyer2, you are wellcome.

I will try to translate the info I have and post it.

I think your drums are from de mid '60.Pinguim was the best brand made in brasil and they said that the sound was similar to Ludwigs. In the late '60 they changed the lugs you have to a copy of Ludwig.

Here is the early/mid '60 catalog.

Will post more tomorrow.

Can anyone explain how the floor tom bracket mechanism works? I think the one at my Doina FT is the same but is incomplete and i want to restore it. I can see a spring, but that could not hold the leg just by itself.

Anyone can help me?

Hey Razvan,

The principle of operation of these brackets is simple - plate is wedging the leg by the spring's force. When you press the plate's knob the leg is released.

That's it.

George.

Tmyer2: Wow! That is such a cool looking wrap on what must be a scarce drum! Please do post pix of the whole kit.

pbarrio: I'm interested in seeing the translation, thanks for doing that.
