Can you determine the type of wood, the shell is made of and are the rerings the exact same type of wood. Also, is there a patch on the interior of the shell where the shell is butted together?

No, but the wood is very porous and light - like poplar or luan - and the ring is made of the same three-layer veneer.

There is an extra layer of veneer behind the strainer - very likely hiding the place where the shell i sbutted together.

I'm thinking it's very early meazzi. The discussion on the wood leads me to think it might just be a mij shell with vintage european hardware added to it years back to look more like an american drum. just my:2Cents:

Jon, is it possible to get a pic that shows the entire inside of the drum?

Can you show us the inside of the lug casing witout the spring ?

The beveled off top of the casing rules out the Sonor imperial style lug, but there were a few Sonor copiers out there after the move. Sonor made a throw like that and also used the two hole bottom hoop. The hoop is puzzleing !!

Some of ther T=rods have tool marks on the corners and some don`t !!

The hoops almost appear cast, that flange don`t look stamped. The hoops also appear to go to a drum with alot of splay, like a conicle or tapered bongo or something because those washers shouldn`t sit like that !!

Just try`n to jar some ideas loose !!
