'71 Premier snare: value?

Loading...

i just acquired this snare (along with a kit), and am wondering if it's worth keeping and playing. it's 5x14, and is stamped Oct. 1971 inside. the black specs are just dirt, not pitting...

any idea as to value or which heads might work best? i'm guessing Hazy 300 snare side and Ambassador coated batter...

Hi,

This is a Premier 2000. Unfortunately: incomplete, as the shown snare strainer is from Ludwig now. The original came with a parallel snare system and is still wellknown and a collector's item (if 100 % original!).

I play mine with a Remo Ambassador coated and a Remo Emperor hazy.

Nice to play - with awesome rim shots due to the die-cast hoops!

Try to find at ebay the missing parts and rebuild it into original again.

.... Then you won't sell it any more.

Greetings

Ralf

A lot of the old premier stuff, especially the Royal ace snares go for good money on e-bay. The royal aces, or at least the ones I've seen, featured the features mentioned above. So if you happened upon a royal ace of the same dimensions which was going pretty cheap because of shell damage etc, you would be able to restore this I think. Lovely stuff the old premier, and always sought after.

Tama Superstar, 22, 22, 16, 14, 13 Desert Burst
Premier Genista, 22, 16, 13, 12 Black Lacquer
Premier Genista, 20, 14, 10 and snare Black Lacquer
Premier Resonator 22, 16, 14, 13 poly creme/black
Zickos 22, 16, 14, 13, clear acrylic and snare

The Royal Ace and the 2000 have 2 different snare mechanisms, try to find a taty 2000 and switch over the mechanism. The value of the drum will still be diminished because of any extra holes.

It's a good drum, very playable and sounds great, with the right head and tuning. What's it worth? I sold one for $75 a few months ago on Ebay after 3 rounds of posting it.
