Is it a proper 14" drum ,Dave, or is it one of those slightly indersized ones?

I had a 6 lug Beverley, with a round gold badge , that I thought was around 1965-66.It was a 14" drum. The New Standard, I think came out not long after the company was sold in 1959. Some of the early ones were based on existing Beverley shells(which were 14") but they very quickly became based on Premier shells and at the time there were pre-International Premier shells in production. The pre- '59 Beverley , that I have , has an exceptionally thin shell of Mahogany and the badge is rectangular jet black plastic-----just says Beverley.

Hi Phil..

thanks,,definately 14" mate, been told its possibly an early one, just after the company was sold.. which would coincide with what you have said above mate. sounds great and so lucky to get this one as i thought it had already been sold and just sent a message on the off chance...just goes to show.. always expexct the unexpected!!

It looks like a 6 lug drum, Dave, with the simple throwoff, that Premier used for Olympic as well. Those throwoffs, can wear a bit and then start to bind. Often, the extra pressure needed to actuate them causes the arm to bend and even break. Slipping the slide side off of the lever side will allow you to put some heavy grease on all the moving components and tighten the rivets with a few whacks on a vice or anvil, if required. I fixed 2 of these that were seized right up in this way. Hopefully, yours is in good nick.

The drum probably doesn't have a muffler either. They discontinued putting mufflers in Beverley and Olympic , in the early 60's. The 8 lug Olympic, that I have (in the same wrap as yours----made a little earlier), does have a muffler. You might consider nabbing one on ebay and putting it in. I know, it wouldn't be original equipment but it does do a lot for the drum------those Premier mufflers are very good quality----much like the Trixon ones.
