Vintage Paiste 3000

Loading...

I recently put up a Paiste 3000 18" power crash on e bay, opening bid of $139. I got a bid within the first hour it was up, I already have 23 people watching and three people sending me messages. One of whom ask I remove the pie now, and he would pay me $$$$ for the cymbal. I know its sort of rare, but you do see them come up, and now I wonder if I opened the bid too low. anyone know about these?????

All I know is that 3000 was just another name for a couple of 2002 and RUDE models thrown in the same product line. Quality instruments for sure, but the RUDE models aren't as versatile - they're mainly for punk and metal music.

Sadly, I can't help you with the right price - they differ between USA and Europe.

I say let it ride. It may blow up at the end of the auction and bring you more than what he is offering. Most offers are for less than what the buyer thinks it will sell for. It's a gamble but it can pay off in the end. Good luck

I had the 3000 Power Crash and 2002 Heavy Crash from the same era and the cymbals were different. The 3000 Power Crash has lathing similar to the Signature series. It had a bigger cup and a fuller tone to it.

I also had a 22" 3000 Reflector Power Ride and my guitar player currently has a 20” 3000 Power Ride. The 3000 has jumbo hammering and the lathing found on the Signature series (the current 2002 PR also has jumbo hammering and I’ll concede a similarity there). Similar to the crash, the 3000PR has a deeper tone to it than a 2002.

I have had 2 of these fall into my lap in the last 6 months and have Ebayed both of them. One sold for $134 and the other sold for $132....or something like that. That in itself seemed strange. These were several weeks apart and one looked much better than the other. My opening bids were for like $89, but I also had alot of people watching it and about 6 or 8 or so asking questions from all over the world.

I sold it because I just thought it was too heavy and also had not yet started to use any Paistes. I have since acquired a handful of Paistes, yet could say it (3000 18in CR) would not have fit into my line-up. I just thought it was too heavy and yes, too loud. I like my crashes (including the larger ones) to be a little more flexible and thinner, which allows for a dynamic range I like. That 3000 seemed to have a dynamic range from like mf to fff. (I think you get my point).

I am 'studying' Paistes by watching the Terry Keating vids on Youtube.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

The 3000 series are quite rare. I have an 18" thin crash; a 17" crash and a pair of the medium 14" hats. They have much more hammering than the 2002 series they were meant to replace. They sound more complex than 2002's and are indeed more like a Signature series in B8. They didn't sell as Paiste hoped. They were also more expensive to create, so they were axed for the return of the 2002 series, which had history and mojo on their side. A Paiste rep once told me that the 3000 series would one day be quite expensive. I haven't seen that. But I do know that I prefer them to 2002's; and of all my Paiste cymbals I would be quite reluctant to part with them. The lathing and hammering is quite lovely and they record exceptionally well. Summary: undervalued/buy/hold

I'd love to have that Thin Crash. In general, 3000's aren't all that rare and pop up quite a bit on ebay. But you see mostly Rides and Hats. Not a lot of Thin Crashes survived the era in excellent condition.

I like the 3000 but I dont think they are rare or extra special. I remember all of my favorite drummers playing them in the 80s. I bid on a set of 3000 14 SE hats but I didnt win. I have had 2002 and 3000 mixed on the same kit before, and I dont remember hearing much tonal difference between them.

I never see them here, but I guess I'm not really looking. That thin crash also makes an excellent light ride. It was my main crash for so long. To my ears anyway, I think the 3000's are warmer and have a different decay. The extra hammering would do that. It's obviously a very subtle difference. At the time I got this cymbal I was a Paiste endorsee so I got to borrow any cymbal I wanted, until I found what I wanted. I had played 2002's and I preferred these. Now I keep them for my sons - trying to keep them away from my 602's ;-)

To anyone that is interested, there is a 3000 20" crash on Guitar Center's used site for $159.
