Dented Timbales

Can the dents on these COB Ludwig timbales be cost-effectively fixed?

Any thoughts or advice is appreciated.

Rubber mallet is your friend there, don't swing for the bleachers though.

I have used a rubber mallet and a fender dent dolly to take dents out of two different Ludwig bronze shells. Take your time...it can have very good results.

HEY!! I'm "watching" these, too!

However, my interest only stems from the fact a friend of mine had a late 60s Ludwig "Carioca" set that I always liked, and was thinking of putting a players kit together...

I've had a little success with pounding out dents (ask ShawnM for an opinion on a Supraphonic 400 I repaired). Also recently pounded out dents in a SS BD, and have some SS toms to do yet. As mentioned above, go slow and easy. I've used a regular hammer (from the inside, of course), with a nice, new, smooth, and definately soft wood 2x4 piece as backing material... hadn't thought of using a rubber mallet which is a good idea, and so is the fender dent dolly!

Thanks for your advice. I wonder if they are chrome plated aluminum instead of COB since brass is pretty hard to dent. I'll try to get them at a reasonable price as it would be nice to have a set.

LOL - yeah, sure, that's what I meant, dented 'cohones'... I said 'timbales' because my ex-wife used them like a percussion instrument! Hurting

I doubt if the timbales would be Aluminum. I have 2 sets of Ludwig & 1 WFL set of timbales, & a magnet sticks to all of them. (I'm not sure if they ever used Ludalloy(Aluminum for timbales).
