My Late 60's Coronet Kit !!!

Loading...

Allan. Really beautiful Yes Sir. Nice to see a WMP that hasn't turned into YMP. Good job on those drums. I can only dream my Hoshinos will look this good once I'm finished with them.

One detail though, your "Pearl-style" tom mounts are mounted the wrong way. The small adjustment bolt should point upwards not inwards.

See picture from Pearl 1969 catalog.

Wow! That is a very sweet kit! And yes, the MIJ values are much lower.

I think about it a bit differently though. First, the 60's and early 70's MIJ kits were indeed not the same quality as American or European kits of the same vintage. They were intended as starter kits to begin with, so that is how they are viewed still. In the day, they sold for about half what professional kits did. I have a few of 'em, and I must admit they are a blast to bang around on from time to time. The older MIJ kits now seem to sound a bit better than they had originally. I think it's due to two reasons: Better head selections available and the now aged wood.

Wayne -- I agree, and that's a cryin' shame! Maybe someday we'll move past that "pre determined" value thing. I've got a partial set of MIJs just sitting because from a profit standpoint I'll not get anything out of my "time" let alone buying the missing parts. Have already talked to Johhniestix about just giving them to him if I ever make it down his way again...Allan -- the drums look good, no great! If I were you I'd be tempted to just keep 'em and play 'em from time to time!Bill

I am looking forward to playing them !!! I have picked up soft cases for them !!!

Nice looking kit Allan! I haven't been to "the Peg" since Grey Cup 98. What's the Red looking like this spring?Cam

The Red is looking not too bad for the spring and so far,no signs of a flood !!!

Great looking kit! Very clean. I understand the double tom holder with thesmallish single post was only used for a year or two, which if I am correct, would add to the value, in my opinion.I have 2 sets of Coronet's from this era, with the same badging and hardware. Mine have an inner ply of what is a much higher quality then usual wood, which I believe is maple, but hopefully someone on the forum will know this for sure. The entire shell is not quality wood, just the inner ply. Are yours the same? Could you shoot a pic of the interior of the kick, please?Again, fantastic to see your kit! Thanks for posting itBryan

Hi,

My kit is at my daughters place,so I can't give you a picture bass drum. I was told that the shells are made from Philippines Mahogany!! I now have a extra badge and tom lugs and a tom holder bracket . You also e-mail me @ albertsdrumming@hotmail.com

I don't think, that there is a way to change them, because as you see in the picture ,it is solid and I don't think ,I can move them !

Hmmm..

Can you not just take the rod that is inserted into the rack tom and stick it into the mount on the kick? That would make it look like the catalog.

White 70's Slingerland five piece
60's Ludwig WMP four piece
60's white satin flame MIJ Apollo five piece

Allan.

-Just as "66merc" is suggesting, you dont have to take anything apart, just take off the tom, loosen the bolt in the "twin mount" and put the end of the mount that was in the drum, into the "twin mount".

-Not that it matters really, I still think you did a great job with those drums, they look absolutely great! Clapping Happy2

After replying and then taking a closer look,I will do what you said !!! I will change it to the right way, because I did not know the proper way for it,since I got the kit ,that way !!!! Thanks again for your help !!!
