Looking for drum wrap

Loading...

I am looking for some unused drum wrap to go on my early 70's Premier project kit. Sizes are 22, 12, 16.

I am not too particular about the wrap color, but am partial to something like Turqoise/ Aquamarine glitter, sky blue pearl, red sparkle, etc. I am not interested in the thin stuff you find on eBay.

I have a 20" Alpha ride cymbal, some A Zildjian splash and crash cymbals, some vintage hardware including a nickel Leedy hihat stand, a no-name Slingerland snare knockoff (6 lugs and a little rough); a practically new Sound Percussion hihat stand, newer Ludwig Speed King pedal; Sound Percussion Splash arm that attaches to a boom stand; Ludwig Acro, rubber pad, stand and moon case. I have a bunch of other stuff too, so let me know what you need, as there is a good chance I may have it.

I am also open to a straight purchase as well.

Thanks!

I have some mirror chrome wrap cut to fit 8x12,9x13,16x16 and 14x22 with high bond tape applied, stiil in the box it was shipped in. If your interested I would trade it for the acro.

Cheers, Cam

Hi Cam,

Let me chew that one over a bit if you don't mind. I was hoping for an offer of a sparkle to keep it in the vein of the early 70's era, but I might be interested in the mirror.

Any idea how easy it is to scratch that type of wrap?

Thanks,

Jack

I hear ya, not exactly a vintage finish. It has a plastic film on it to protect the finish while you install it but once removed I'm not sure how well it would stand up. Take your time and think it over.

Cheers, Cam

Thanks Cam. I am going to try and find some time to strip off the current rewrap job. I have no idea how tough it will be and what i will find under there. HOpefully, it will be nice wood. IF so, I may just give it some sort of tung oil finish or lacquer finish and call it a day. My guess is that the wrap will not come off as smoothly as I would like and create some areas that will need to be filled and sanded. Then it would a wrap job for sure.

Thanks!

Ok Jack, good luck with your project. I'm no expert but I have rewrapped 2 kits. I used a heat gun and a puddy knife and the old wrap came off pretty easy without damaging the shells. Both kits were Rogers and the outer ply was maple. It may be more difficult to remove wrap from mahogany and other types of wood.

Cheers, Cam

when using the heat gun go slow and do not get it too hot some of the old wraps will burn like a torch be carefull... but it does work well.

Cam and Mike,

Thanks for the tips!

I played around with trying to get my thumbnail under the edge of the wrap on a couple of the drums and it seemed like I could do it in most places I tried. So, I suspect the glue used on the rewrap is somewhat pliable or at least not used all over.

There was a torn piece on the FT and the wood under the wrap looks really reddish.

Here are a few pictures.

I am still open to drum wrap trades. I am still mulling over the offer of the chrome wrap, BTW. It just would not be at the top of my list if I were looking at a straight out purchase from one of the websites.

Thanks.

Jack -- Good luck on the project, but that chrome wrap just showed up in Kansas this morning! It's going on a set of Pearl FG drums!

Cam -- the wrap is in great shape! Thanks! I'll post pics of the set when I get it done. Not my top project right now, so it may be a couple of weeks!
