Ludwig BW badge piccolo snare, age?

Loading...

Hi all,

My used piccolo may not even be vintage, but hazarding a guess here:

Ludwig maple? 13x3, with BW badge, round corners, line around serial number which is B204260.....anyone have any idea the age of this snare? Interior is natural wood color, same as exterior. Also, value of it?

Thanks much!

Pictures would help. Unless it says 'USA' at the right side (beside the 'Ludwig') it's an Asian drum. Maybe less than 20 years old. Hard to say with no pictures.

Hope this comes through; thought the serial number would help shed some light....it's a fine sounding snare...

"Hear the rime of the ancient mariner

See his eye as he stops one of three"

Oh, sorry, I got carried away and couldn't help revisiting an Iron Maiden tune that I used to like. :D

According to this link: http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/ludwig_badges.html, it is a Ludwig Rocker made from '84-'90. You can find out more about them here: http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/ludwig_rockers.html.

Thank you! (also: Water water everywhere not a drop to drink....)

Knew it was a Rocker series, but didn't know which one, and the interior is not speckled nor gray.....

I am, however..... LOL

I had one of those and it was quite nice. Went with my 10/12FT/16 Luddie microkit.

I paid $117.45 new in 2003 at a drum shop in California. Must have been old stock they wanted to clear? The snares (if not the full Rocker kit series) lasted until the 2000s.

I've seen them misadvertised used on eBay as Ludwig Classic even though they lack the keystone badge. They have a maple inner ply and basswood outer ply (according to Rob Cook's book) and the same lugs as the Classic ones, which doesn't help with the confusion. I've seen them sell from $68 to $170 (misadvertised as Ludwig Classic) on eBay, but haven't looked since 2009. Wonder what they fetch these days?

I sold it when I scored a 1959 Jazz Combo 3x13 which is even nicer.

Here is a new one on eBay now:
