Crown Drums made by Pearl....Star...Stearl....Par???

Loading...

Hey all. I recently grabbed these crowns locally after doing a bit of research which many of you contributed to, whether you knew it or not (thanks). Therefore I thought I would share the find which ended up pretty cool. The kit is a 3ply (I think) 20 12 13 16 14 (13 not pictured) in what looks like BDP. I believe that they are from the 60's and probably from the Star days hence the round badge. The only issues I found with them are a missing badge on the FT and a missing bass drum spur. If anyone has a lead on these two items please let me know. Also, if anyone has some info I have missed or got incorrect please inform/correct me as I only lost my MIJ virginity about 5 hours ago : )

Sorry about the photo quality as my camera was out of juice so the crappy iphone had to do.

By the lugs on your set it would date from 1970-71 .In 1970 Pearl change the lugs to the ones on your set.I hate to say it but fining the missing badge will be a hard order to fill. Not to many of these badges around anymore..Pearl used these Crown badges for only a few years i think it was in late 1971 when they used these badges..Missing bass drum leg is a easy thing to come up with i have them...Mikey

Thanks for the info Mikey. I tried to pm you about getting a bass spur off of you, but your inbox was full. Please fire me the damage to ship the item to Alberta Canada. Thanks

Sorry guys, but the T-rods are indeed Star. This could be a hybrid, but I doubt it. I call it a Star.

Hey Jonnistix - funny...I'd posted the exact same kit, (in blue) and you called it "Pearl"...? Check the t-rods again - similar shape to Star but not the same. And speaking of t-rods, I'd tried putting a bottom hoop on the floor tom, (original was missing) and I found that neither Pearl, or Star t-rods were the right thread... I've still not resolved that issue.

DaddyNowhere,I hate to say this but jonnistix is wrong. These T-rods are made by Pearl Not star..Star T-rods are rounded and Pearls are simi-rounded all the way around the ends.As far are T-rods on your floor tom these would be the fat Metric ones that Pearl used 1/4 20 thread,or the odd size metric threads that they used..A photo of your T-rods would tell me..P/S did you get my email the other day on the other parts you are looking for?....Mikey

I have my doubts that STAR ever used this type of a rail consolette (never seen one at a STAR bass drum).

I agree - closer to the Pearl consolette, though even Pearl had screws through the top of the banana rail which these do not - more like Ludwig. I'm thinking that, if these are in fact Pearl stencils, that they were perhaps meant as a higher end product...? And Mikey777 - yes I got your email, and will try to get pics off to you shortly. Thanks,

Hey Mikey I know I am probably not a priorty since I only need a bass spur and live in Canada but further inspection of this kit led me to also need a tension rod for the kick (the replacement was decent but I want her as she should be) Let me know price for both and I will paypal you ASAP. I know this is probably not the place to be posting this but I don'tthink my pm's are getting through. I will also post a pic of the tension rod as it seems to have caused some friendly disagreement.

Here is a closer look at the tension rod and rail mount. I also thought the floor tom mount and leg were a little odd. May be pretty common but struck me as a bit different than what I have seen.
