Morris attic find

Loading...

hi all,

a friend of mine found these and gave them to me...

the badge says "morris" and the hardware says Japan!

now for the things I don't know:

name of wrap??

date/era??

wood/ply set up??

(and less important: value??)

they seem to be in saveable condition but are they worth the time and effort?

I quickly fixed the floor tom and it sounds rather nice...

any info is appreciated

Thanks!

Dennis

IMO, don't look like they need much work... so definately worth the time to clean up.

Nice looking drums!

They,re worth about 200 US tops, but the real value will be playing them and enjoying the professional sound you,ll get for so little....nice score.

Thanks guys!!

any info on them??

the wingnut on the 12" has a plastic wing and the basshoops are metal...

does that mean late 60's early 70's or am I wrong??

Bill, I'll get at you for that other thing asap!! ;)

Dennis,

I think mid to late 60s, and probably not 70s -- unless very early 70s.

Metal hoops on the BD were standard. I've never seen the "Morris" brand name, but that's not uncommon to run into a "new" one from time to time.

That wrap (or a variation of it) wasn't rare -- Ludwig Standard even had it, or at least had one very similar. I for sure wouldn't mind finding a kit like it... but I imagine shipping from your location to over here could be as much as or more than the set's worth.

As for the other, I've still got it packed and ready to ship. Just let me know.

Thanks,

Bill

Dennis, Nice loooking set you got.Your set was made by Pearl from about 1967-69 the lugs were used on many made sets by them Crown,Norma,Tempo,Mercury and the list goes on..They made two types of these lugs one only had a flat nut as a insert the other had a insert that you fine on drums of today hold in the lug with a spring. So if your lugs have only the nut insert it would date it right at1967 to mid 69 in late 69 Pearl went to the spring insert set up these lugs.On the 12" tom mount it looks like someone may have changed it out at one time. The mount is a copy of a 60's Camco's mount. The mount that should be on the tom would be a plate that the "L" arm would go into. But i do have the right mount for the bass drum and i could change out the "L" arm and add a round piece to work with you tom mount.I have a few of these mounts in stock. On the bass drum spurs i have them.I also have the T-rods for the bass drum if you need them.I also have the 12" rim do you need T-rods for the tom? Check and see because on these sets Pearl used Metric threads but also the 12/24 threads on these T-ros .A photo of one of the tom's and bass drum T-rods would tell me what threads that you would need.I may have the floor tom legs by your photo they look to be the mounts that take the fatter legs is these right?.The color of your set went by a few names i think Pearl named this finish "Root Beer"...Mikey

Wow Mikey, Thanks!!

the lugs appear to be the early ones, without springs.

but i don't know what to think off the tom mount, does anyone have an example off how it should look when it's complete/original???

and for the remaining parts i guess i need to look a bit closer to home unless one of you has a very strong carrierpigeon Laughing H

my budget is to thight to pay loads of shipping costs :(

anyway, thanks for the help, i'll probably need it some more when i start cleaning them :p
