Ludwig Pink Oyster pearl?

Loading...

A few days back ebay had a set. 3 piece in what they said was Rare Pink oyster pearl. They were asking 4,500.

Well the set isn't there so I assume it was pretty rare and got picked up quickly.

Just curious if anyone has a set like that, heard of it? Saw the ebay auction?

Not looking for a set like this myself, but figure to collectors rarity means a lot.

Thoughts?

It was item# 400280277638 if anybody cares to see it (NOT mine!).

It didn't sell, at least through eBay. The listing says "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available" which means the seller ended the auction early for whatever reason he/she saw fit.

I like the Pink Oyster Pearl. Yes, I think it's pretty rare but that was way to much for me...

Nope, I don't know how I missed it. I've been looking for a few years, got a snare, bass and mounted, need a floor tom. That's a steep price, how many pieces and sizes? POP ludwigs do seem to never make it to the end of any auction; several have been pulled that I was bidding on.

Larry,

From the description:

"So here are the specifics of this kit. Aside from the Awesome Pink Oyster Pearl finish, the kit is sized 8"x12" mounted tom, 14"x14" floor tom and 12"x20" Bass Drum with clear interiors and reinforcement rings. Nickel hardware (classic style lugs), round knob internal mufflers, cymbal arm holder mounted on bass drum, tom mount, WFL Transition badges and brand new heads. There are some extra holes in the bass drum and a ding on a section of the bearing edge on the 12" tom (see pictures). Kit tunes up nicely, sounds great and is pleading to be played! There is also one bass drum hoop that is missing the Pink Oyster inlay (has white pearl instead)."

I'm not saying it's not worth that, but I am saying it ain't worth that to me.

Thanks, Bill. That's about $1,500 per drum (avg). I recently acquired my snare for 1/3 less, the mt and bass awhile back at even less, for both. (snare was vg; mt& bass were drums I had to restore.) Maybe if they were pristine...

So,there's still hope ...I gotta keep searching,searching...

I just wish Delmar would make it available. I really like the 60s Black OP that is available through both Jammin Sams and Precision. I would think if Demar would produce it, they'd both carry it. However, I got brave and talked to Delmar about buying direct through them... and they'd be glad to sell to me... with a minimum order of 90 sheets! That's a little much for me!

I also like the old Blue Oyster Pearl, but that's in the same boat...

In my "picks" I've not had the priviledge of running into the Pink Oyster, but I will keep my eyes open!

Maybe 90 sheets gets a 99% discount...or we could start a POP club with 30 members, 3 sheets each, ...I'll keep working on ideas.

I do like the oyster pearls. I have a few black oysters, no blues ...yet.

I had this set of Rogers in Pink Strata (same wrap). I sometimes put the 10x14 on a cradle to use as a second floor tom with the 9x13, 16x6, and 14x22. After a couple of years, the novelty wore off. So, I traded them for another vintage set.

I saw the kit on EBAy it looked a little rough given what they were asking for it. If 90 sheets is the minimum to get Delmar to make POP let's do it! It's like going in for season tickets for the Giants. I'm in for at least 10 games. Get another 80 games and we're good to go. I bet if we can round up 50 or 60 sheets, Jammin Sam or PD would take the rest.

Who's in?
