MIJ and MIT? snare drums

Loading...

I have these two snares. I thought they were both MIJ but the blue one has TAIWAN stamped on the top rim but no other markings.

After purchasing (local CL for $50), I think that the stained wood snare was wrapped and someone removed & stained.

I was given the blue one by an ex-coworker since he's given up drumming and sticking to bass guitar.

Any ideas on these?

Your first snare is a M.I.J. by Pearl from the late 1960's. Hard to pin point the name that was on the drum, the lugs and strainer were used on about 40 or so names that Pearl used..Yes someone did remove the cover and stain the drum. The blur drum is a M.I.T. has Pearl copy lugs on it made sometime in the 1980's....Mikey

Thanks Mikey! (Sorry for the blurry pic.)

I thought the blue one was much newer - no support rings inside the snare.

On the M.I.J. and M.I.T{1980's} drums they started to make shells with out rings in the late 60's.I was dating your blue drum by the lugs and the strainer the lugs did not show up on drums made by Pearl till the 1970's but the strainer did not show up till 1980's...Mikey
