What the heck is this? Paiste SUPER Switzerland

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&hash=item4cfe80fca0&item=330687380640&nma=true&pt=Vintgae_Drums_Percussion&rt=nc&si=4bJ19ayX4ROymz89YHzla8MnldU%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc#ht_500wt_1287

I am not sure what to make of this. It says in the description that it was taped off and polished. For real? and it turned out like that?

And another thing....Paiste Super Switzerland? Never heard of this. Are they valuable? I see a couple on Ebay there but they sure aren't movin'!

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

I have a 20" . It isn't nickel siver. The Dynastar Superior are nickel silver and they have their faults but as far as nickel silver cymbals go ?----pretty good. The Super are spun but from sheet(yellow) brass, I think, and the one I have is poor. It is a dead cymbal with no sustain and the wash sounds more like a washboard. You have to give the guy credit though-----cutsey up a crappy cymbal and shoot for some coin. The only thing wrong with this is , the cross over the bell should be painted red-----just let everyone know it is SWISS!!

also there seem to be German Supers which are different again just to make things even more uncertain. From RaBe's cymbal page (a very old document no longer updated)

You can see from the shot of the underside that it had some quite brown patina there. In my experience you can get much more patina on the top compared to the bottom, so it is possible that what you see is masking with tape to preserve the patina in rings and then removal of the rest by standard cymbal cleaning methods. An unusual approach, but not out of the bounds of possibility.

They don't usually command high prices, but then there are quite a different number of Paiste cymbals called Super (see above post for references). I wouldn't expect that one to get a bid at $299 for openers. That price would be more of a 22" 602 pre serial price for a 602 in nice condition. Having done the stripes thing this Super is now neither one thing (patina preserved) nor another (brand new polished look).

just bury it fo 1 year

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I have a 22" that I put 6 rivets in. I really like it! It has a cool Art Blakey type vibe and is fairly dry. I also had owned an 18" in the past. Pretty dry, nice trashier crash like mlayton said. Prior to the links above, the only stamp I had ever seen on any of the Supers was this (From my 22"):

No mention of Paiste on the stamp, but I am assuming Paiste made it, because who else makes cymbals in Switzerland?

My 22" has a great patina on the top especially. I had left it (top side down) on top of a cymbal bag on the floor of my basement before I REALLY waterproofed it (I would on rare occasion get tiny amounts of water prior to that). Well, it was a cheap cymbal bag that was a throw-in on an ebay deal, and the cymbal bag got damp, and therfore my 22" got damp. I didn't notice it for a few days. It was like leaving it on a damp sponge for a few days. It has a real brownish-green color now that's very uneven, and it looks very cool; very unique. It doesn't affect the sound at all, but it is one cool looking cymbal. I don't even know how the "finger smears" got in there, but it looks like a very expensive "custom" cymbal now!

These cymbals are very smooth with no tonal grooves, and are very easy to polish up like new. I never will of course.
