He apparently thought the release of the Telstars was Trixons downfall----his words were " when they brought out the conical drums , they lost the plot". Those black Trixons were with him for about 4 years, metric ones with calf heads. The drum solo in Big B , that is the subject of this thread, was originally recorded for the album, Out of the Shadows, on this black ,Trixon kit.It is a little tamer and does sound as though there are 3 toms but he was known to favour 2 different floor toms. Perhaps he had a 14 in the studio.[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYUclzlxlEQ[/ame]

The drums are 363 x 160, 330 x 240, 550 x 375 and 418 x 400 or roughly ,---- 14 x 6 1/4 , 13 x 9 1/2, 22 x 15 and 16 1/2 x 16.

I have the identical kit and a 363 x 400 black floor tom as well( I bought it out of Germany for 77.00E. , including shipping). I love those drums.

The Conical set was OK for Ringo.

In a better quality scan of that picture, you can clearly see the wood front hoop. Telstars had a chrome front hoop.

The angle and focal length of the lens , give an impression of taper to the bass drum; it's actually, the house kit, a Luxus at the Star Club in Hamburg----picture taken in 1963.

There is also a picture of Charly Watts ,playing a Luxus ,Silver Croco kit on stage in 1964.

LOL...Kevins.

The drummer in the video you posted (Thats "Move it" by Cliff Richard) is not Brian Bennet. It is Tony Meehan. Thats also Jet Harris on Bass guitar.

In 1962, Tony Meehan and Jet Harris quit The Shadows to form a duo. They had 5 chart hits, but then dissapeared. Meehan became a record producer, Harris never regained hit status. Brian Bennet, a fantastic drummer took Tonys place in the Shadows and stayed 30 years.

That's drummer Tony Meehan who was the Shadows drummer until 63, when Bennett took over the chair. Meehan passed away in 2005.

I didn't look at the clip---just saw the black Trixons but it does look to be Tony Meehan. He was replaced by Bennett in OCT. '61, according to a lot of sources, who played the black Trixons in '60 (with Eddie Cochrane and Gene Vincent,as a member of the Marty Wild's Wildcats), '61,'62 '63 into '64. Tony Meehan was known to have played Ajax drums. There are a few clips around of him playing them.He was known to have favoured an Ajax ride cymbal(unusual?). Perhaps he went over to black Trixons about the same time as Brian Bennett, or is playing Bennetts gear in this clip? It is pretty much the same kit Brian Bennett had, even down to the deep snare. Maybe Bennett had the flu, or something?
