A. Zildjian Hi-hat Dates

14" Avedis Zildjian Hi-hats

First - Stamp is faint/uneaven, does not have "Made In USA", has 3 dots

Second - Stamp is very clear/sharp, does not have 3 dots

From the difference in stamps, it's obvious these are not matched. Bought as a set. Probably cracked or lost the top and then replaced. They still sound pretty good together. Nice "chick, chick" sound. Way better than the 13" ZBT's they replaced.

On a side note, it's hard to take pictures of cymbals

Thanks,

Tim

I'm not quite clear on what you are saying. Please excuse me if I'm just not quite understanding your meaning.

When you say "cut" do you mean the lathing?

When you say "old 1970s" do you mean the late 1970s?

And when you say "the cymbal", which one do you mean? Two are pictured and under discussion. Or do you mean both cymbals?

Thanks in advance.

I believe Drumaholic means that the cymbal in the first photo is a late 60s and the cymbal in the second is an early 70s. My initial thought was #1 is a 60s and #2 is a 70s. From my observation, Drumaholic KNOWS cymbal stamps, so he can identify them much more accurately and within a time frame (such as: "Late 60's early 70's."). I am merely a novice at Zildjian stamp identification, trust Drumaholic on this subject.

I'm no guru, just a vintage drum junkie!

Ditto on all of that. In case it needs clarification, I was asking Nsra65 what Nsra65 meant. That's why I quoted Nsra65's post. I knew what Drumaholic meant, and like you, I respect his knowledge on these matters. Bill's answer was short and precise. Can't ask for better than that.

No worries. :) I understood your post and would like to hear what Nsra65 meant as well. I was basically trying to tell thornbeck, without pointing anyone else out, that unless Armand Zildjian comes back to life and refutes Drumaholic's knowledge of cymbal stamps, I would trust Drumaholic's assessment of these cymbals.
