Pearl COB Jupiter Snare

Hey all,

I recently traded an early 90's Tama Rockstar Pro snare, COS, 10 lug, 6" x 14" in excellent condition and a Tama single braced, medium duty hi hat stand in good condition for this 5" x 14", COB, 10 lug, Pearl Jupiter snare in excellent condition....The only issue I can see from the pics he provided is that there looks to be a few wires broken on the strainer...I haven't picked this snare up yet.

Do you guys think I did ok? I don't know alot about the Jupiter series, so any info regarding it would certainly be appreciated.(era, non original parts, best sounding heads, etc.)

As always, thanks in advance

Cheers

sounds like a good place to start for a cob snare, just picked up one myself thats a bit shabby, but enjoying mucking around with tuning, unsure myself about heads, mine has an old pin stripe which i think is past it. i assume you have read that this is the snare stewart copeland used in the police.

I did read that Stewart Copeland used this type of snare....Did he use the 5" or the 6-1/2"? Also, I found that these snare originally came with a 16 strand strainer....Can you post pics of yours?

Cheers

I have an early 80s Pearl Jupiter 14x 6.5 in A+ condition- I`ll post a shot of it tonight when I get back into the house. The only issue I can see with your drum in the photo is that it`s missing the great die cast hoops that these drums came with. Someone may have switched them off and put some triple flangers on there. The muffle control knob does not look like any stock Pearl one I have seen on Jupiters- I wonder... Anyway, Jupiters are a great, working man's COB- heavy as a boulder and great tone. I paid 120$ for one in top condition. I think that is just about fair value. Will post a pic later todayThe Band

I appreciate the replies...I was wondering about the hoops because I read somewhere that these snares came with die cast hoops...The seller did say something about the hoops being "stamped"...I'm not sure what he meant by saying this...I'll have to do some more research regarding the muffler control knob...

I would appreciate if you could post some pics of your Jupiter Osaka....

Bishop...I've never tried the Aquarian Saturn heads before...I'll have a look for them....

Cheers

Hi there,

First let me let you know how happy i am now that i finally found information about this Jupiter snare drums, i've been searching for it for a long time, maybe i didn't know how to search on the web. Well let me tell you i have a Pearl 5" x 14" Jupiter COB and i just read at another forum that there were 2 models at the same time 2 COB´s (Chrome over brass) i'm talkin about late 70's one like ours with the Parallel system that it's actually the one that was called "jupiter" and the other that had the "traditional" throw off system.

http://www.pearldrummersforum.com/showthread.php?198382-What-s-a-B4514-brass-shell-snare-drum-worth

ok i wanted to tell you i think you hoops are the originals i mean mine has the same as yours cuz i think that ours are from the late 70's and the dies cast hoops were added to this models on the 80's well i think so based on the link above.

I also think yours is not missing snbare wires mine does, look at the pics, please let me know if you have some more info about this snares, im really interested on purchasing new wires but the ones that are "screwed" to the Parallel action system.

i had to change all the lugs cuz when i received the snare it only had 4 of the originals and some others so idecided to change them all for "pearl" style ones but of course they are generic. Thanx in advance for reading me. Please keep in touch.

Wow!! Here`s an old post that got resurrected!! First, Welcome to the VDF Mark77...I traded the Jupiter for a 1964 Slingerland Hollywood Ace in WMP quite awhile ago...It just didn`t have the tone I was looking for...

I don`t know much about the Jupiter model, so I can`t really offer my opinion...Mine was a very heavy snare and the new owner of it is very content with it...

Anyone else have opinions???

Cheers
