10 inch MIJs SEE LINK

Loading...

Hey guys,

.....not much activity on my 10 inch add-ons thread. So, I am starting a new one here as it was hard to notice that I had a link in there I wanted some comments on.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-Vintage-RED-Sparkle-PEARL-10-Floor-Tom-Drum-NR-/300653801644?pt=Vintgae_Drums_Percussion&hash=item46005cf0ac#ht_500wt_1054

When did MIJs (like we discuss here) start offering 10 inch toms? Were they first sold as concert toms, or were they also offered on the kits? and WHEN.

While I am building these 'add-ons' for a couple of my 4pc MIJs to convert to 5pc, is there anyone on here with original MIJs with original 10 inchers?

Do share pics as well!!

Thanks, something I have long wondered about.

John

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

You sure that link is valid? Getting a "over 90 days expired" error here (but on a smartphone)

John, It's my understanding that no M.I.J. set of the 60's had toms that small..The first i know of started to come with Pearl set's in the 70's i think it was about 1971..I don't know of any no name M.I.J. set's that came with a 10" tom till about 1980's then you start to see them...Mikey

GUESS WHAT!!! FOUND THE AUCTION AND EDITTED THE ORIGINAL POST.....AND HERE IS THE WORKING LINK AGAIN:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-Vintage-RED-Sparkle-PEARL-10-Floor-Tom-Drum-NR-/300653801644?pt=Vintgae_Drums_Percussion&hash=item46005cf0ac#ht_500wt_1054

It is a very nice tom. The badge is the one that had the big capital letters PEARL diagonally. That probably gives an indication of the year.

That's such a bummer!

Mikey, thanks for the info. I wonder if anyone has one of the MIJs that was an early offering of the 10inch tom??

Did you win the auction, I hope?

I know it's hard to tell from the pictures, but for the life of me that looks too big to be a 10". It looks like a 12" to me. It's a 6 lug drum, and the lugs look too far apart to be a 10".

Also, the person listing it called it a "floor tom drum", so maybe they measured the depth and not the diameter (from hoop to hoop), as a non-drummer might? They never said diameter, they just said "it measures 10 inches". An 8" x 12" would be about 10" deep if measured from hoop to hoop, fully assembled.

Interesting indeed.

Yes you are right Vyacheslav---The drum is a 12" tom NOT 10".The lugs are to far apart...Someone will not be happy when they get the drum...Mikey

What a small world. I recently aquired a 16" x 10" mij bass drum. (triumph, 3 re-reings, wmp) I'm looking for a matching floor tom and mt. I want to make a elf sized kit. I found a small metal snare to go with it. I'll attach pics
