I went thru the same sceen last year. My so called friends wanted to start a drop in center for the youth to go and hang out and learn to play music.

they asked me to help them out with some drums , sure i was more than happy to do so. I fixed up a nice set of mij gold sparkle kit with new aquarian heads top and bottom with buffed out sabians b8's/solar and a dozen pairs of sticks to get things started. The day i had the drums ready i called them up to come and pick up the drums the first word that came out of one of the guy's mouth was, oh! that's the drums can't you do something cooler , i was so insulted the next thing that came out was you want a cooler more exotic set of drums , then go to my competitor and asked them. Down the road i found out they asked my competition first and they just pretty much laugh at them.

i'm glad that i did not give them the drums cause they did not even get the center open. i'm still always ready to help out in donating drums to the right non profit cause or a talented kid in a broken home that was recomended by the right guy, and not some cheesy C/L add looking for free drums for poor familly's or so called shcools. 99% of the time those add's are from a low ballers looking to re-sell for profit.

Unfortunately my friend, that is the Way of The New World. Most decent people have at one time or another extended the hand beyond the line and "got it bit!"

Don't stop being you, just don't let the same person bite you twice. ;)

I retired from Scouting after serving as troop scoutmaster for over 20 years.During my tenure there were lots of times when a kid wasn't quite sure he wanted to join,or couldn't afford to,so we were more than happy to lend or give these kids lightly used uniforms,and camping equipment.

I went to lots of yardsales in those days,and payed for that stuff out of my own pocket.I can easily count on one hand,the number of times,a boys parents would thank me for my efforts.

But thats not why I did it.It was something that just needed to be done,and if I didn't do it,then who would.

Over the years,I have come to expect a lack of gratitude from most people,but I have often wondered if it was human nature or nurture?In my capacity as an NYPD detective(now retired),I also experienced the same attitude from some people,whom I extended a helping hand to;at times going above and beyond my job description.

All I can say is that,doing good deeds is a measure of character,and those of you who extend themselves,by unselfishly giving goods or services to others,are examples of what we all should be doing.There's nothing wrong with paying it foward,and hopefully,when you need it most,someone will do it for you.

Sometimes we get burned a little,but its ok,I can take a little heat.

i once "loaned" a Purecussion Headset to some at-risky youth kids to help keep them out of jail...

Well Wayne, just be humble and courteous and politely pick them up, making sure to thank them, then find a deserving kid to take them.

such a kind gesture mate and it gets thrown back at you...very dissapointing...we have a saying called..

"never look a gift horse in the mouth"! Think that sums it up nicely!

Ive had far more joy over drums I have given away than drums I have sold.

I think the British saying that's also appropriate here,concerning the ungrateful is"a nod is as good as a wink,to a blind horse".Hope I got it right.Cheere mate
