Gave away a Crown jazz kit to a school for challenged kids so they would have the joy of playing the drums....I get a call from the school. "Come and get the drums out of here please. They dont sound good and no one is using them"....You take it from there:(
The nerve!!!
Sounds like a drum hating former guitar player is in charge. That is too bad.

I built a 10,000 set of cabinets in my shop in Illinois, hauled it to Tuscaloosa Alabama and gave ( and installed) it to a family that lost there home in the big tornado last spring. My wifes 3rd grade class all made house warming cards to give the family. My plumber threw in a stainless steel sink, toilet and faucets. Even though the family was thankful I have never received a thank you card or anything like that since November when they moved in the new house. It is a great feeling to give and I will do it again. Too bad they told you the drums sounded bad and to come and get them. If I were you I would go get them and not say a word. Then I would find someone who will appreciate the drums and give them to him/ her. jonnistix has a great method for donating drums to needy people, you should pm him and ask about it. It involves work on your behalf but I think it is a smart way to do it. Otherwise, sell them and donate to Saint Judes or something.
I am not mad at the family in Alabama but do admit a simple card or even a email would have been nice.

Not too surprising. The kids want the modern sound. Vintage drums are not for everyone.
The fallibility of man should never shock and surprise us. It is what it is.
There is another scenario; no one says anything and the kit gets shoved away for no one to use.
The way it worked out, you can still put this kit into someone's hands that will be a blessing.
Things happen for a reason.
it's just the way some people are it not true to all, but hardheaded lack of education, ignorant a....holes just about ruin it for the real decent folk out there sure your not supposed to get thanks for giving the Lord will thank you in the end what more do we need...

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
Wayne,
don't feel bad. I am a special ed teacher and deal with the mentally challenged. I was laid off last june because our wonderful republican Gov. cut the budget for the Adult day training. I had a nice space at the foundation and I taught music and computers. Those folks love music. I would bring in my percussion bag and pass out different things and we would make some serious noise. They had a keyboard for me and a big screen tv. We would play to music videos and I could play sequences with the midi keyboard.
I had 3 or 4 there who loved drums. We woud have been honored to have that set. I didn't have a set that would have been for that situation. I was going to make a project for us to restore a set and keep it there but never got the chance..The thing is, without proper supervision they will beat and bang and just go crazy with something like that. Maybe that was what was happening, they loved them to much and there was no one in that place to control the situation. you never know. that was a nice thing to do though.
I would definitely feel good about doing that. My wife just asked me to look around for some really cheap-to-free drumsets for one of the kids in the program she works for that deals with autism. They would have gladly accepted something like that. Too bad people don't think equally..
