Funnily I noticed yesterday my guitarist has one on his loft..."something" wrong with the mechanism.

Will ask him to bring it to me and try to see what and if it is fixable.

I dismantled the thing yesterday, and it was fixable. Worth the trouble?

Dunno. 3 hours of funny work is always fun - when the time is there.

There is ONE plastic part each side in the mechanism - a small slider, that lifts the snares when the lever is - levered?

The eyes in these plastic sliders had broken off - cheap ****.

I filed pieces of brass to size with an eye for the screw. I had to take some off the plastic to avoid the sliders getting too thick, epoxyed them on - and to make sure the stick, I made holes for two 1½ mm brass screws in each, also epoxyed in place:

The almost finished article - just some gentle smoothing to do before I rivet them back in place and reassemble the drum:

Excellent repair-most likely better than new.I love bringing them back from the dead. Typically I find drums broken due to really bad abuse or overtightening.

But-there is poorly designed hardware.White metal used to replace parts originally designed to be made of steel or brass.And,obviously,plastic under tension.....

Yes - this is both bad design, putting plastic under stress, both very likely also due to overtightening and thereby putting too much stress on the linkage.

Other than the plastics self-lubricating properties, this sliding part should really have been made in metal, I think.
