Premier drums

I'm looking for info for Premier drum sets from the 90's and 2000's.(I'm guessing here) I have a lacquer kit that says Made in England. It has a 5 ply shells with the center ply being dark (mahogany?) and the outer plys light wood. (birch or maple?) It looks to be a mid level kit. The color is a center fade from grey to black. Anybody know of a web site that might help me. Sorry these aren't vintage but sometimes in our quest for vintage we come across interesting things. I thought since these are NOT Asian I would buy them. They were not much money and in good shape. Sizes are 12x9, 16x16, 16x22, matching wood snare 5x14 with 16 lugs. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Lots of catalogue scans at:

www.drumarchive.com/premier

Also, try the guys on mikedolbear - being brits, that´s the people to ask about anything Premier:

But first - take som good pics, also of smaller parts like lugs and so on - and put them up at picasaweb or someplace like that.

This will help people help you!

Most likely those are XPKs or APKs. These are made of Birch/Euculyptus(sp?)/Birch. Decent kit. I had an XPK (red rosewood stain) new from 1998, just sold to a friend when I bought my new maples (Ddrum Dominions). The kick is great, toms are great, floor can be ok- but it was a 14incher that disappointed me - not able to be tuned deep enough. I was still able to tune it to sound good - just not as deep(low) as desired. As for craftsmanship - GREAT quality.

....so long as you are dealing with an XPK here.......

BTW, mine was in excellent shape (only a couple scrapes on the BD). I bought mine new in '98 for $800 (5 piece). Sold it last summer for about $340. If this one in question is same kit in same condition, $350 is a fair price. If their price is lower (and again-great condition) then anything else is a great deal. You'll LOVE the kick.

Good luck,

John

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

If the interior colour is black, it's an a/xpk. All nice drums those Premiers. If money were no object, I'd have a hundred Premier kits, even the a/xpk ones.

Yeah- I'm THAT guy!!!

Thanks guys. Mine have clear birch (I guess) interiors with lacquer outsides. They cleaned up nicely. So it sounds like they are XPK series. What, late 90's? Are they REALLY made in England like it says on the badge?

At least the badges must be...

No, really, I think that if the badges says so, they are.

Pictures is a must....as late as the late nineties, series had names, Genista, Cabria.....

So, please, upload a couple of pics of badges, lugs, hardware - and general shots of the kit!

Regards
