Affordable scale for weighing cymbals

Loading...

I use a digital postal scale. I dont remember where I got it but it was about $30. I sat a plastic coffee can on top of it and zero the scale and then put my cymbal on top of the coffee can. Without the coffee can the cymbal covers the readout. I like Ludlovers better. they have a hold feature. Mine wont weight a real heavy cymbal. I have some shipping scales I use for large ride cymbals. These have a removable display. I can set the display in view and it tells me the weight wirelessly.

The only issue I see with this scale is if you have bad eyesight. What I mean is, do to the small size and low profile of the scale once you place a large cymbal on it you must peer under the cymbal to see the display.

Have you tried to balance the cymbal on it's edge and the readout wouldn't be covered. I have done this with drum boxes that covered my bath scale to get shipping weights.

Just put a plastic coffee can or something on the scale and zero the scale and set the cymbal flat on the pedastal and you can easily read the readout under the cymbal.

The coffee can idea is awesome. I guess I havn't used the scale enough to come up with my own trick but now I don't need to. Thanks!!

When I weigh my cymbals, I just turn the cymbal up-side down and center the hole on the middle of the scale...I then use a flashlight to peer under the cymbal to look at the reading (only for large cymbals)...

For my fellow Canadians...I bought my scale at Canadian Tire on sale for $10...It is the StarFrit electronic kitchen scale...It`s accuracy is +/- 1 gram and has a capacity of 5 kg or 11 lbs...I`m happy with this scales performance...

For my fellow Americans...I`m not quite sure if this scale is available in the USA...I do recommend it if you happen to come across one!!

Cheers

I have a Dymo 10lb. postal scale I purchased in Staples. It has a "HOLD" button to hold the weight setting after you remove the object if it is blocking the screen. Works great.

Starfrit is a Canadian distributor of kitchen gadgets out of Montreal. They distribute widely across Canada to various hardware stores, Canadian Tire(a broad spectrum,hardware/kitchenware/garden centre/car parts/sporting goods etc.retailer) and even grocery stores.

The Starfrit 11 lb. electronic scale is a total deal. I've used one for years. It weighs in lbs. + ounces ,kg.,gm. or just ounces, uses a 9 volt battery, is about 8 x 6 inches and weighs about 1/2 lb. It has a tempered 1/4" glass 6 x 6 top. I picked up a few rechargeables from Hong Kong(less than 10.00 incl.shipping) and the batteries are good for years.

I'm absolutely sure that the same scale would be available across the line for about the same price, somewhere.

However ,if anyone is interested, I would be willing to put together a consolidated purchase for some from my local CDN. tire(I'm on pretty good terms with them and they would probably give me a deal) and ship them south by post. There won't be any customs issues. They would go as a small packet for low value as a gift. I would think, the total price , including shipping would be about 25.00. I could even order a bunch of 9v. rechargeables, to go with them. They get a lot cheaper, the more you buy and delivery is in about 10 days. If anyone is interested, just put a note in this thread.

The standard retail price on those scales is around 18.00 but they show up on sale about 4 times a year, for about 10.00 + 13% H.S.T.(harmonized sales tax). I'm pretty sure , I can get them for the low end price.---any questions just ask.

No one uses a triple beam scale anymore?? LOL :)

That's a nice scale what type of life do you get from the 9V battery? 11 lbs is a nice weight capacity. Some of the smaller 110V scales (600 gram limit) get sorta expensive. The battery ones are a nice alternative.
