1965 Slingerland Restoration?

Loading...

It's your dad's kit. You'll regret having sold it later.

Great idea to buy an orphan floor tom and recover the one drum. I wouldn't touch your dad's original drums. Your old man put a lot of his mojo into those tubs... play them.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Thanks everyone for confirming where my heart is with these drums. I think that fact that they are not perfect and the stories behind the marks increases the value in my opinion. I am going to keep them and leave them alone. Maybe add floor tom. I did notice that the floor and ride toms do not contain badges, is this normal? The shells are stamped inside though with 1965. Below is a pic as they look now. I would also like to put a clear wax on the wrap to shine them up a little. Any suggestions for which type of wax to use?

Found a thread here on the badges around 1965 and looks like Slingerland started putting them all toms late 65/66.

Try Novus plastic cleaner and polish #'s 1 and 2. These products are safe for the wrap and work great. As for the badges, Slingerland didn't add them to their toms until the mid 60's, so its ok that yours don't have them.

Great kit! Enjoy it!

Do you use Novus on these thin flame wraps? I've not heard of using that on these types of wraps. I've always just cleaned them with soap and a tiny bit of water.

It wasn't late 65/66..it was late 66.

This is just a thought.....

....has anyone ever tried those Mr. Clean wipes with the cleaner already in the sponge on a wrap like this?

I wonder how those would work? It would be awesome if someone had one to test on.

Wow!! There is so much mojo going on with this great looking White Satin Flame kit! As to cleaning the wrap, all you need is a very mild dish washing solution and a soft sponge. It will get into the shallow grooves of the wrap and get them really clean. We're not talking mega amounts of solution here, just enough to clean up the built-up dust and dirt. I cleaned up a 4pc Joe Cusatis 4N kit I had that was wrapped in Blue Satin Flame. The finish really cleaned up! That was another kit I should never have sold. It's pictured here setup just like in the catalog!

Yes I agree,

Do not wax this finish.. Just clean with a mild detergent & a (Very) soft cloth.

They are very easy to scratch.. as you would already know...

(by the way they look great already)

Cheers

For cleaning wraps I use Fantastic! with Oxy. Works great on plastic. Does wonders for keyboard keys as well.
