Pearl President - PINK Sparkle Wrap?

Loading...

Been gigging with this kit for quite some time now, it's a Pearl President by the lug casings. I bought it about 5 years ago for $200 and did some minor restoration work on it. The only major piece of hardware that's missing (damaged actually) is the original tom mount, but I can never seem to find the right one and I don't want to drill new holes for a different one.

I bought this kit just because it was vintage and it looked cool. I've never in any other forums or anywhere else seen another like it in the same wrap. Has anyone else seen one in this wrap? It's definitely not just a faded red, it's pink lemonade all the way and the parts that have faded a bit actually fade to be slightly darker, oddly. It looks totally original, 99.9 percent sure it's not a re-wrap.

I'll try to find or take some pics of the whole kit if people are interested. It's 12, 13, 16, and 22, no snare.

Is my kit rare? If so, how rare? I've seen the "Pan" badge President kits, maybe it's comparable to those?

Greetings and welcome to the forum.

I don't know if it's rare, but it sure is good looking. Yes, please do post pictures of the kit. We like pix, lots and lots of pix!

There are some real Pearl experts on the forum, I'm sure they will be chiming in very soon. President's are their passion.

Have a great New Year, and post those other pictures soon.

yeah, more pix please. I haven't seen that finish before either. The tom mounting arm should be easy enough to get. Mikey777 will probably have one or two.

OK, here's pics of the whole kit. Didn't set it up because I keep my hardware in my car and I live up a lot of stairs...

I don't generally use the 13" tom much, but I recently re-routed the bearing edges and now it tunes much better than it did before (I actually had to epoxy a big ding out and then go at both sides with a router table. Put 45 degree edges on it).

The 3rd pic shows the kick dum tom mount, which cracked off. I put a thick bolt in there just so I didn't have an ugly hole in my hardware.

I should also say, I just bought another President kit, red oyster wrap, with a rail mount, and the floor tom for that kit has 8 lugs, while this one has only 6. This made me wonder, did Pearl ever use these lug casings on other kits besides the President?

Any of those aforementioned Pearl experts want to chime in on this thread now that the holidays are done?

Yes they did according to some of the Pearl experts and some reading that I have done. I have a 60's Pearl President Pan kit with those lugs, but mine has wood hoops. My understanding is that Pearl used those lugs into the early 1970's on some cheaper lines. Your hardware looks very nice. I'm looking for some real nice hardware for my kit that I'm working on now.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. I can't see any little holes where a badge might have been originally, so maybe it didn't ever have them.

This kit has wood or composite shells with a gray finish on the interior. Some of the bearing edges were a little beat up when I got it, and I recently routed them down (45 degree edges on the toms and a 45/rounded hybrid edge for the kick). It really sings, and tunes anywhere very easily. Got coated ambassador bottoms and Fiberskyn tops on it currently.

I actually found the hex mount for the kick drum a couple days ago, after like 2 years of looking for it! Gotta get a hex arm and I'll start playing the tom mounted on the kick. I just wish I had a matching snare!

Hey Infiniteninjas, what does the hex arm look like that you need?

Nice looking kit. If the cracked mount is on the bass, I may have one for you. Would you want it, PM me about the c/c measurements and I'll get on the way. I may have the proper arm as well....lemme look at both. I like the Pearl shells, but truth be told, I prefer all the early 60s Star just a bit more....you know, opinions are like drummers, everybody has one, but they don't always like them....
