Todays purchase

I ended up buying the Forums from my customers Grandson today. Paid 50 bucks for everything. He removed the wraps and stained them and a later date painted them. Now, what to do with them, sparkle or mabye a solid color lacquer? I know they are cheep drums but I will have fun seeing just how good I can make them look. Toying with the idea of filling the holes in the base and making it a virgin. I will take photos as I go but first I have to finish a MIJ red sparkle kit I bought back in July.

Thank you,

Jeff C

I think these are constructed similarly to my '89 Rockstars-mostly Poplar-but they were "hair band"dimensions,so I cut them down. The only downside I see is the 6-lug floor tom,but Pearl hardware is good quality.I have a good friend ,a machinist, who's made me 2 nice stainless steel delete plates to cover the mount holes on my 2 Tama sets.Actually, the antique white/cream/ivory color looks pretty good.Could they be properly finished in that color?I think tung oil or laquered interiors will make a big difference sound wise.

The quality of the paint job is very poor so it is going to come off for sure. I think I might try a red sparkle finish on this one. I think the shells are basswood and I will finish the insides as well. If I plug the holes, the interior finish will be white. I have some time to think it over!

Thank you,

You can't go wrong here for $50. I see lots of possibilities, experimentations, etc.! Have fun!

Regular mail... just in a plain envelope. No tracking info or delivery comfirmation... just went cheap. Hey, I'll cut another and get it sent off. Probably won't get it done until after the first (got an out-of-town funeral Sat., and we're looking at a 5 1/2 hour drive tomorrow), so if it happens to show up between now & then, let me know...

I've no doubt that whatever finish you decide, it will look great! Your past projects prove this! Post pictures when complete and Happy New Year to you!

Thank you very much! Its nice to know that someone is looking at my drums. Happy new year to you also. Have a fun but safe evening.

Thinking about doing a pearl white finish on this one.
