Removing new wrap over old....

Loading...

Hi, I'm picking up an old Premier kit tomorrow. I can't tell you what it is exactly, because some joker has covered it in a woodstain effect vinyl wrap, covering the badges!

I can see from the bass hoop that it is Black Pearl underneath, which I am quite excited about.

However, I am not sure if I''l' be able to get the crappy wrap off without damaging the nice wrap underneath.

Has anyone done this succesfully before? If so, can you tell me how you did it?

Thanks,

Elliot

Have no fear, it´ll come off easy.

Strip the drum for all lugs and stuff, place it on a towel or something, on top of a table, and start dragging off the wrap --- no tools, no chemicals, just your hands and some good old manpower.

Good luck, looking forward to see the result.

Thanks Carsten- you were right - it has come right off. I've done all the drum s except the bass drum so far. It does leave a sticky residue underneath, but that comes off with a bit of white spirit.

The Black Pearl underneath looks brilliant -well worth the effort. I think the vinyl cover has just protected it for the last 30 years!

When you say white spirit, do you mean mineral spirits? Paint remover/thinner type?? I use WD40 as it works wonders and is not harsh like most solvents some use. WD40 will remove almost any adhesive residue and it's also works great on noisy door hinges ...... other than that it's useless!! LOL Please post some pics of that great Premier set ya got there!! :)
