I have the red thunder kit with the missing 13". Sweet drums for sure but for that kind of moula it is on the high side. But if you got the means to pay for it and it aint going to cause you any financial troubles then i would be on the phone working a deal. They are hard to get and it will be harder as time passes by. That kit seems to be in excellent cond. You will not be the first to over pay for drums just because you want them. lol i would nothing about over paying Hmmmm

The vids are great, but what you mostly hear is the guys Supra. Nothing wrong with that, but it isn't part of the kit.

I can vouch for these drums as being somewhat of a "Poor Man's Gretsch". Similar tonality when using Remo Ambassador coated throughout. Again, priced steep but increasingly rare as stated and with the amount of toms (also a rarity, i a beautiful finish to boot), you have a lot of configurations to work with. Like I said, if I had the cash...... but I don't. :(

Did anyone of you have a look at the other ads on that page?Eye Ball

Just can´t help myself, but all the offered sets seem to be way too pricey. I´m no expert, but I´ve seen similar offers to the kits there that mostly were less than half price they are charging.

OK, the items seem to be in neat condition, but without having a look at them personally I won´t bid on any of them.

The prices on that site might be fine for a collector who´s able to pay it from the petty cash and puts the kit(s) in addition to his other trophys in his showcase.

If I´d buy a set at such a high price, I wouldn´t dare playing it!

Thanks again everyone. As I'm kind of a Yamaha guy, I was thinking it would be nice to have a vintage Yamaha set to add to my Birch Custom Absolute jazz set. You know, something true vintage and something more modern. That’s why I was looking at this particular set.

To throw another wrench into the mix, ever since I played one of the new Club Custom sets last week, I pretty much fell in love with the looks and sound of those drums, and now am wondering if I should instead put my hard-earned dollars toward something like the Club Customs to give me some of that "new" vintage feel. I guess there's something to be said about newer hardware and construction, yet still being able to cop that vintage sound. Hmm…decisions, decisions. :)

I have some insight on this very subject, as I spoke about this with Jim Haler, Yamaha Drums' product manager, before I reviewed the Club Custom kit for MD. It all began with an e-mail to Jim suggesting that they bring back some of the vibe of the vintage Yamaha kits. He simply said "Come see us at NAMM" and wouldn't elaborate. The Club Customs are a modernized and certainly pricier update/upgrade of these old gems. The Swirl finishes, which are created with lacquer, are meant to emulate (not imitate) those old Willow finishes. Then there's the taillight mini lugs, the dark tonality of the Kapur wood used and of course, much better hardware. Needless to say, Yamaha hit all the marks.

The Club Customs would be a wonderful contrast to your birch kit, if you are going to spend big $$$. Yeah, it's cool and it's vintage and I get all that, but if you have the cash and want to gig on them, Club Custom is the way to go. I can also tell you that the Club Custom 20" kick absolutely blows away that old Yamaha kick in terms of power and depth. As cool as they are, they are still not a pro level kit.

Thanks JR, this is good to hear. I really was taken back on how good the Club Customs sounded and felt when I played them, and their retro appearance has really grown on me so I guess I can't go wrong if I choose this path. I'll have to look up your MD review, I'd love to read that as well. Thanks again!
