Does This Offend Anyone?

>As far as hurting the value of the kit, that's been done already, a nicely executed mod might be more helpful than harmful at this point.

SurfCollector:

I have an idea for you...to cover that hole without drilling...buy a MIJ bass drum spur mount, and put a large washer underneath it and the bass shell IF its too small for the hole. Then tighten the nut, and it will look exactly like a MIJ center cymbal mount like on the old Pearl Valencias. And No drilling!!

Hows that?

Yes that would Offend me---Ok iam joking around...No it does not offend me.These mounts are pretty much the same mount..I do see someone did drill the hole in a poor way..So go ahead and cover it up with the mount you have...Mikey

Daddy...Very sorry bro,i typed it wrong. You are imo, spot on.Its trout and his whining i was referring to..I referred to a handful of "drummers" that always have a problem with just about everything. They,re everywhere...Again,im sorry.

You can speak English then? But you can't type it, obviously. I am whining when I stick up for other users? Yes, I can see how how someone like you would think that. "Think" being the operative word here. Cortex. Medulla. Never mind.

If I put a Zim Gar tom mount on a Star bass drum, will I be kicked off the forum?Could the value of this kit be effected?

Hi surfcollector!

Last year in June I was in almost the same situation as you´re in at the moment. As you can see, I wasn´t kicked out yet...:D

For me it was no question that the value of the kit already was effected due to the alteration - somebody else had been mounting a Pearl Tom holder on the BD.

So I decided to change that and looked for an "as-close-to-original-as-possible" solution. What I found was an older Tama bracket including a DTH on feebay - the one you have got there looks very close to it!

And, as some other members stated, it´s your drum, so you decide what to do - (in this special case) my opinion, too!

Besides, funny that we both seem to have similar kits!:)

Yikes Jurgen - you sure you have enough shell left there to support that big Tama mount? What a shame. Sure, still a nice kit, but as far as collector value goes, I'd say that sucker is pretty much toast. Guess I'm lucky that mine still has the original Star consolette. Keep drillin' guys, just makes mine that much rarer. Oh, and no offense taken wayne.

Hi DN,

yes, surprisingly there was enough shell left! And - I didn´t have to drill any holes, ´cause the Tama mount fitted the holes of the original mount - see 2nd pic in my last post (if you look close you can recognize the four original holes and the mark that the original holder left). And it´s solid as a rock because of the thick metal plate that´s placed inside the shell with the same shape as the mount on top has (this is original to this later Tama item).

Indeed, a shame. But I didn´t have another choice, the Pearl mount was on there already when I pulled that almost complete kit out of a trash bin (posted this story last year in june, "Hello, I´m new to this site!").

My kit originally came with the "Fre-O-Matic" Tom mounting system and not with rail consolette, so I´m comfortable with this solution. I use her as a giggin´ kit since I finished the "cure".

Well, I don't like to see mods... However, once it's drilled, it's got a hole in it. This isn't a sparkle wrap that where the hole can be filled and some wrap put in. So, I'm with everyone that goes with - just fix it!

I have a nice Ludwig 20" three ply that I've named 'The Sieve' since it has been 'upgraded' with new swivel telescoping legs and the rail mount removed and a Ludwig center post added. I'm going to fix up the drum and play it. I mean it's collect-ability is shot to hell, so why not turn it into a player. Heck, it'll sound sweet, the rack tom will stay put and the drum won't 'walk'.

Since it's already done, finish the job and make it playable.

Just my :2Cents:

Hey, don't get me wrong fellas - sometimes, if a kit is too pristine, you don't want to risk taking it out anywhere, but otherwise,if it sounds good, then by all means, beat on that sucker!
