From Orphan Drums

This is a early or as close as i can identify pre 65 Sonor in red satin flame. original bags and 50% original heads. I love this Kit

Nice kit. It is however not pre 1965. Check out the 1964-65 catalog, where the satin flame finishes are still not featured: http://www.sonormuseum.com/1964/64-65Deutsch/index.html

Also, check this page for badge etc information on dating Sonor drums: http://www.sonormuseum.com/identify/indentify.html

The rectangle badge is not pre 1965 either.

In the 1967 catalog we do find your finish: http://www.sonormuseum.com/1967/1967Deutsch.html

So, your kit is not likely to be older than 1967, perhaps even younger. Check the inside of the shells for date stamps. In any case, the kit should be of the later 6-ply beech shell variety, not the earlier (until ca 1965) very thin 3-ply beech shell with rerings.

Hi Orphan,

How did you score the Sonors? That's a lovely kit! Its definitely mid 60's Sonor.

Is it 3 ply with rings or six ply?

The kit appears to have the Z5503-B double tom mount, first catalogued in Germany in 1967, the same time as the Rot(red) satin flame wrap. The kit was made sometime after 1967.

The badges on the kit say made in western germany. according to the identify info on the sonor page those say early-mid 60s. Is that what everyone else is seeing too??? or am I nuts?? I have not even pulled a head of yet to look inside, is there any date info on the shells??

I can`t tell if your badge has the strip under it or not,..The wrap is 69, If it says Made in western Germany on the big badge,...it`s 69 to the Champion era !!

Can I get A close up of the BD badge, FT badge, and Toms ?

Sonor kept little to no records durring this period,..numbers and codes mean nothing to pre 80`s Sonor !!
