Premier Dominion Super - lug(s) needed

Loading...

Hello out there - I've just got hold of a c.1930's Premier Dominion Super 14x6.5 snare (Pearlex wrap, Regal hardware finish - and it's stand!) which is looking and sounding great - but - as you can see in the first pic, one of the lugs has shattered. Other than this the drum is completely intact and ready to gig. I'm happy to replace all the lugs with an alternative if needs be, but do not have any intention of re-drilling the shell! ;) Any help and advice with this would be very much appreciated!

Calling MIKEY!

Yes please do not drill new holes. A lug can be found, be patient.

Nice find!

I may have the lug that you need.If not please don't redrill the shell.i may also have vintage lugs that would work on your snare.Just a few questions on the lugs you have how long is the lug from the outside end to end? Also the hole spaceing on the mounting screws center to center?....Mikey

Hello again, and many thanks for your replies. Here's an update. Whilst I wait for Matt at Vintage & Classic Drums here in the UK to source a replacement, in the meantime I thought I'd have a shot at repairing the lug. It ended in complete failure, but was good to give it a go! After assembling what was left of the original lug, I used QuikSteel epoxy to re-build what was missing. I re-painted with Humbrol paints (Antique Bronze, with a coat of Gold on top to get the aged look). You can tell from the pics how much the lug had 'fatigued' anyway, so I went for a slightly bumpy finish - not so easy to achieve as a smooth finish, to be honest! It looked great, but once I started cranking it up..... ;) I'll be patient and await Matt's search to bear fruit!

There's a bit of wood-spotting and whatnot on the inside of the shell - not sure what to do about that....

Other than that I think I'll leave as-is, as I get the feeling a convincing finish on the hardware is going to be difficult to achieve... unless anyone has any ideas?...

Also attached a peek at the dual snare mechanism - most cool indeed!
