Which is correct t-rod for this Slingy SSK?

Loading...

I'm cleaning-up a 5x14 Slingerland cob Super Sound King, (hey Vipuronr, I found one!) I'm thinking late 70's to early 80's by the serial #454263. It came with a hodge-podge of t-rods, some of which where obvious aftermarket, some possibly original. Can anyone please id the t-rods in this picture, and tell me which one is correct for this project. Thanks!

No. 6 is Rogers

I'd say 2 is the right one,and I have a few of them if you need them.

Yeah I'm thinking either #2 or #3. I have a late 70's TDR Sound King here that have the #3 style t-rods (thick, flat collar w/dimple), assuming they're correct.

Hmmmmmmmmmm

#2 is a Slingy tension rod, a little early, I think for an eighties drum though.

#3 or 4 are both Slingerland also, but have the dimples on the heads, one of those is more likely it, I am venturing.

The Slingerlands I have from the seventies have those dimpled heads, and the earlier Slingerlands I have do not.

Just my opinion here, I don't have a drum from the eighties to compare it to.

#2 is for the early 60"s Slingerland while #3 would be correct for the 70's era drums...

I kinda thought #3 would be the ones for this era drum. I wanted to confrim on this forum. Good news is, I've already have enough of this t-rod on-hand for this drum. Just waiting for some washers to arrive that I aquired last week. If anyone can ID #4 & #5 t-rods, I would appreciated it!

Thanks guys!

And the winner is... drum roll please... #3! I'm looking at my 70's tension rods right now and it's definitely #3.

This is exactly the kind of "minutia" that many of us agonize over! I like using the proper tension rods on each make of drum. Each drum company had its own style of tension rod and many of us know the difference!
