I acquired this with a double bass kit this weekend. I know it's the real deal, I'm guessing an Old stamp? Any idea what year?
20 inches in diameter and 2,050 grams. Small keyhole, no cracks.
type IIIb 1953-1954.
Thanks...is that considered an early or intermediate stamp. Also with this weight, would it be considered a ride?
at 4-1/2 Lbs........a Medium Ride.....but.....hit it as a Crash.....if it sounds like a Crash...thats what it is too!
They just made cymbals and left it up to the drummer to decidetheir best use. Generally terms like ride or crash were not used for the K's and usually only by Avedis, but I have seen a few K. cymbals INK stamped with type designations. Probabaly this was done when they got to the Brooklyn warehouse. All K's were meant to be used as general purpose crash-rides.
Your cymbal is an "old stamp".
Blair, this is now the oldest K Istanbul I own. I think it's gonna be used as a ride, I'd hate to crack this thing by crashing it.
I'm not saying to use it in a Death Metal band, but you should be able to give it a decent crash once in a while with no fear................
In fact, that used to be my first test on a Turk K......I would crash it,and if it sounded good as a crash,it will usually sound good as a ride I have found....
