Nice wrap, and a very good price!

Does the softness and weight alter the sound much?

Regards

Jon

Thanks Jon. I have yet to have a good hit out on the drums but so far they seem to be largely unaffected by the thicker wrap. I was worried about seating the heads with them being so tight but that's not been a problem. The heads I've put on are quite old coated ambassadors (I don't know what it's like where you are but my eyes water every time i go to buy new heads here), if I put new heads on they'd cost more than the kit several times over. I have put on a new Evans EQ1 BD head though and it sounds pretty good even with the old reso head on.

You wouldn't use this sort of wrap on an expensive American or European kit but it made financial sense with this kit and so far it seems to sound pretty good. I'll let you know if this changes when they're played in anger.

Thanks Longjohn. Yes, it was a nice discovery. As long as the glue holds, and it seems nice and tight and showing no signs of letting go, then it'll be a very hard wearing material and easy to clean. Up close it looks like a regular drum wrap too, just a little softer to the touch.

Great job, Fayray.

Although I must say, I wouldn't have stripped the snare drum. That original wrap was still cooler.

I know Ralf but I bought the drum for the project and I deliberated for quite a while whether to strip or not. In the end I figured i'd have to remove the paint, replace the throw (was broken and not original anyway, and had one extra hole drilled) and then I'd have a drum I didn't need that wouldn't be worth much more than I paid for it and I'd still need a drum for the project. So the rest is history.

Ok, I posted this yesterday but it seems to have gone missing.

I bought the material from a local shop here that sells everything from fake blood, party wigs and screwdriver sets to craft materials and fabric. I got the idea from this thread http://www.pearldrummersforum.com/showthread.php?242031-Re-Wrapping-my-1970-s-Pearl-Fiberglass-Kit-for-45-PICS!/page6 so it seems the product is easy enough to get on your side of the world. Here it was $12 per metre (3.28 feet). It's very easy to work with too.
