A Star is (re)born

Some of you may remember my post about the Star kit in pieces purchased for $30 and in a bit of a state. Well here she is now.

I have rewrapped in gold sparkle vinyl that cost $37 (probably enough left to do another kit too) and everything else cleaned and polished. The only parts needed were the tom mount arm off the rail, spurs and some heads. The chrome is very poor in places but it's good from a few feet. The snare came seperately. I think it's probably an old 70s Pearl that someone had spraypainted black. The premier hihat stand and cymbal stand came with the kit and are actually really good. I've been using the cymbal stand in my live set up.

Because the vinyl is a bit thicker than normal drum wrap the heads are a tight fit but they go on ok with a bit of coaxing and the kit sounds pretty decent. I only need an appropriate grommit to fit the FT badge and i may do some BD hoop inlays. I have the 13" tom that I have also finished but I only have the 1 mounting arm. Besides, I only use one mounted tom.

Yo, Andrew!

Your kit is beautiful!!! Our two sets of drums started out in an identical fashion! Mine are listed under Vintage Drum Image Gallery (Star Drums in Turquoise, or something like that). Man, there's something about those oldies! Tuned correctly with the right heads, your drums will sing! I do appreciate the old Star bass head though! Looking at your bass, I may change mine back to the original head. I know that I am contradicting myself. Your bass just looks so cool! Great job, sir!

thanks guys

It certainly was worth the effort. I actually enjoy doing this stuff like many others here also do. The rewrap was surprisingly straight forward - a couple of cans of aerosol Ados glue, super glue gel for the seams, a nail hole punch and craft knife for the lug holes and a bit of time.

This is the snare drum as i got it. Needed a new throw off but the rest was fine. I thought about saving the old wrap but as I had bought it to rewrap to go with the kit, decided not to. It was only $20
