Yamaha rc's lug/claw info

Loading...

I need some info on lug and bd claw replacement. I'm cleaning a recording custom from 92 and a few of the Tom lugs and bass drum claws are rough. Searched for lugs and didn't find much, the claws I found are similar if not identical to the stage custom pch-2's. Can anyone confirm the claws will work and point me in the right direction for the lugs?

Well this is what I'll be doing for a few days, restoring a 5 piece Yamaha RC's almost destroyed by a rich idiot who didn't care about his drums!!! What have you guys used to repair scratches and dings? Maybe a referral to a cabinetry /furniture refinishing shop??? thanks!

Nice pick up.

I have used Turtle wax scratch and swirl remover followed up by a Carnuba Car wax. The best thing to do is remove the hardware first, of course.

I used the same thing on an early Mapex kit that had a sweet cherry stain. The moron that owned them was about the same, a rich fool... scratched the crap out of the kit. They weren't nearly as good as R/C's, but I made some kid happy with a nice looking (and cheap priced) kit when I got done. Try this method before you take them to a cabinet shop.

Best of luck!

Thanks guys!

Some of the scratches are deep and will require filler, then a lacquer spot job and then sanding a buffing. Going to wet sand some of the lacquer scratches this week and buff to see how they come out. I will never get them back to the factory finish but I will try and do my best.

I took off all the lugs and mounts to a plating shop to have them re-chromed. Next up are the the hoops...they are ok but scratched up on the sides as the drums were set on there sides alot...on concrete I'm sure! So I'm wondering about getting them re-chromed or just to get some worldmax replacements...your thoughts???

I plan on keeping this kit...I had a smaller version in the early 90's and I had to sell them...I did miss them until now!

Depending on the depth of the scratches, the rims may never really look correct. Look 'em over and see if you think the re-chroming will cover the mess. If not, new or at least correct vintage rims may be in order.

As far as the claws go you can use the claws made by Canon or Dixon. They are similar to Yamaha claws but cost a lot less. If you are planning on restoring this kit to original condition then get Yamaha stuff but I don't see the point if you don't have to spend the money. Good luck. Those are great drums as I know from experience having had some for about 4 years now.

Once you figure out how to search his site, there are also great deals on die cast, Super Hoops, wood hoops and sticksavers. If you desire to replace the bass hoops, nice wooden hoops can be had here, another poorly devised site, hard to navigate, but once you figure it out, the deals are there for some things.

Thanks again for the info. I was able to order some claws through Yamaha. Instead of trying to use the beat up bass drum hoops does anyone know where to pick up some replacements? I've seen dark cherry hoops from the birch absolute series.....wondering if these will work?
