Hi.

I have the chance to get what i think is a Zildjian 18" EAK from a local shop.

I think they don't know what they have, but neither am i sure.

- the cymbal has a K stamp on top and bottom

- very obvious (hand-) hammering

- amazing low overtones, great wash although it's quite heavy

I have no pics available, but does that sound like it's an EAK? it looks like it has been sitting in that store forever. no stickmarks, perfect logos, just one tiny nick on the edge.

they want 260 Euros, which is the equivalent of 360 dollars. does that sound fair??

thanks

Dang, that's high. You may want others to comment, but to me, that's seriously high.

I wonder what prices similar Zilly's are going in Europe. That sounds like a high price (sounds like what brand a new Zilly K goes in the U.S. that is not being clearanced out); but then again, Zildjians could be higher in Europe. But that does sound a wee bit expensive- I agree with Rogersling. Though we also have to remember VAT accounts for something like 17.5%, which is built into the prices.

I'd do a bit of research on the pricing of those if you could, then compare prices.

It WILL NOT have serial numbers if EAK........

Tell them it has been there a long time, and is that their best price?

They may go a lot cheaper!

@ blairndrums: no there was no serial, i checked that. also the engraved logo didn't seem to be engraved too deep.

The guy at the shop said they had already dropped the price to finally sell it.... :-( Also: shops in Germany (especially like that one) are not really negotiating prices, which i find is a typical German Businessman habit.

I am well aware that vintage stuff in general is more expensive here than in the US.

I thought the price was a bit high as well, BUT today an EAK 20" went for 384 Euros (530 Dollars) on Ebay Germany... so I guess 260 Euros for a 18" is not too bad...

taking into account bunnymen's thoughts: if i might want to buy a similar Cymbal (18" EAK) in the US:

- total price here = 360 dollars

- minus shipping - 60 dollars = 300 dollars

- minus 20% VAT and custom

That leaves me with 250 Dollars which the same cymbal would cost me in the US and then ship it to Germany....

Does that sound more reasonable?!

It probably IS a good deal for you, then. It may be a bit on the pricey side for us in America. But again- by the time you deal with all of the silly hassles of getting an American cymbal over to Germany, it would cost nearly the same as the price you have quoted.

We in America forget that there is the VAT, and other things that are built into the price, whereas in America, the tax is added to the price.

That makes more sense......

I would grab at "$250" if you like the cymbal........

You can always sell, and prolly not lose anything.
