Premier drum. info please

Hello,

My school was going to get rid of some drums and offered them to me. So as any drummer would, I jumped at the chance and brought them home. After cleaning, polishing, and tuning them, I found that not only were they pretty old, but actually sounded pretty good!(especially the floor tom) I was wondering if anyone could give me any info on them. Here's what i know, the bass has the original resonant head, and none of the drums have any extra holes.

I also have the high tom too, which is in good condition, but doesn't have the wrap on it. Unfortunately I don't have room for them, so i am looking to sell them. Any info you could give me would be helpful, or even an idea of how much they are worth. Thanks!

Your Premiers are from the late 60s... great drums... and burgundy pearl is a rare wrap.

I wouldn't attempt to evaluate the market price. Sizes matter. I'm guessing from the pics: 22x14 and 16x16?

Here's my 1969 burgundy pearl 'bop' set; 18x12/12x8/14x14, shown with an early 60s blue pearl 14x4 'Royal Ace' snare. I paid $1,600 for the 3 drums two years ago. Some might think I paid too much, but they are worth more than that to me! Ron

If you don't mind my asking, why don't you still have it? Could mine be your former set?

I bought mine from Bill Maley @ Classic Vintage Drums.

Douglas, I just visited your website. Obviously, my set isn't your old one 'cause you're in 'Dear Old Blighty'!

Interesting that you had up for sale the same set as mine in gold sparkle with a 2001 snare added.... now sold, I gather.

Your price... 1,350 pounds... works out to 2,168,USD.

On the basis of 1,600,USD that my bass and 2 toms cost me in the USA, the 2001 snare works out to 568,USD. I doubt it would go that high in the USA, although, IMHO, the quality compares favorably to anything Ludwig, Slingerland or... dare I say... Rogers! were turning out when those Premiers were made.

Very nice set! I was wondering if one of you might be able to give me an estimate of what it would be worth? Thanks!

Hi Ron,

I sold a 3 piece bop set in grey shimmer to someone in the states last year for more than my gold sparkle kit with snare went for. Premier sets go for much more in the states and europe than in the UK. Just like Rogers, Ludwig, Slingerland etc sell for much more here than they do in the states. I saw your set on Bills site some time back, lovely kit, I swapped mine for a 1951 20,13,16 radio king, regret it now. Beautiful drums.

Hi T-Dubs, kits with regular sizes 20/22 etc command a lot less money than the smaller bop sized kits., burgundy pearl is a lovely finish and not very common. If it was all in good condition i'd expect it sell for $400-$500 providing you cleaned it up and took some nice pictures. Last week I put a grey shimmer 12,16,20 up on eBay for $400 and it went pretty quickly. It was a nice kit but think I would of struggled to sell it for much more than that. They are great sounding drums both the 3 ply birch and the 3ply african mahogany (like yours). Good luck with whatever you decide to do with them.
